Dio Diosanta

Dio Diosanta began his life as a slave in Volantis.  Like many slaves there he was marked on his cheek with the mark of his position and his owner.  His master was a tradesman and often went on voyages across the seas to buy and sell his wares.  On one such voyage when Dio was 8 their ship was attacked by a Tyroshi pirate named Vandeen the Bloody.  Vandeen killed Dio's master and took the boy as his cabin boy for the ship as well as a few other able bodied slaves to serve as extra crew.

Dio took to life as a pirate very well and learned everything he could as quickly as he could manage.  By the time he was 14 he was leading the pirates on their raids off ship, Vandeen already too old to lead his men in combat.  It was only natural then when two years later after Vandeen's death Dio took over his ship and his crew.

For a decade Dio Dio raided slave ships up and down Slaver's Bay.  When pursuit became too fierce he would retreat up to Myr and hide out while selling off his ill gotten loot and taking on a new crew.  It was at one of these times he met and befriended your father.  The duo created something of a trade agreement.  Dio would raid the ships of his competitors and leave your family's vessels alone and in return Dio would get a better than average barter rate for any goods he sold in Myr.

All men age however and while your father's business acumen only grew with time it worked against Dio Dio's skills.  Eventually his step wasn't as fast and his arm not as strong and pirate hunters kept getting younger and hungrier with every passing year.

He's been living in your family estate for the last 12 years.  He's taught your brothers and cousins how to fight with a blade, worked as a bodyguard for the family, backroom dealer when necessary.  He's been invaluable to the family and he's watched you grow up as well.  Taking to you like his own daughter he's been known to dote on you but also can be over protective.  When he heard you were preparing to leave for this trip he insisted on coming along to make sure you'd be safe.

In his youth Dio Diosanta was known by many names: The Cerulean Corsair, The Pirate King of Slaver's Bay, Father of 1000 Bastards.  Mostly though he went by Dio Dio and now in his middle age its what he answers to most often.

Serving as the bodyguard to Cyra Vyraes he's not always at her side but he's never far.  Slower now than in his prime his paired Arakh and Dagger are still sharp as ever, as is his tongue if only any of these Westerosi spoke a civilized language.
