  History:
William was born 35 years before the Event, at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany.  His father was an air force mechanic and his mother was a local woman his dad had married. They stayed at Ramstein for 3 years then off to the next base, Aviano Air Base in Italy.  His father was stationed here for 4 years, then went back stateside to Pope Field Air Base in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  They stayed there for 4 years then transferred to  Schriever Air Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The family stayed at Schriever until William's dad retired after his 20 years.  At that time William was 14 years old and tired of moving from school to school.  His dad moved the family to Denver and they settled down there.  William enjoyed school and played several sports, including Football, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.  He got involved in the SCA and enjoyed the fighting and the leather crafting.
When William graduated he decided he wanted to go to the Air Force.  And he knew going in that he wanted to be a mechanic. Once he signed up and finished basic he went to Kirkland AFB in New Mexico as a 2T3X1.  After 4 years he was transferred to Ramstein AFB in Germany. So he stayed in the service and was sent to the Sandbox with the 86th Contingency Response Group as part of the 376th AEG based at Kyrgyzstan. Once there and they saw his aptitude for maintenance they sent him to various bases building Frankenstein support vehicle. He stayed in the sandbox for 8 years, occasionally transferring stateside but never for more than a few months. Once he rotated back stateside his duty station was Arnold AFB in Tennessee.  He worked on everything from vehicle engines to rocket motors.  His main area was testing motors to run on various fuels. His current rank was Master Sargeant(E-7). He qualified for the rank of Senior Master Sargeant but that would have taken him out of the motor pool and behind a desk, so he managed to never be available to take the test.

He contemplated getting out because of his interest in mixed martial arts and Ironman and Strongman competitions. He competed in a couple of the Ironman trials but discovered his was too thick and heavy for that.  He did better in the Strongman trials but didn't have the time or money to train as intensely as the other competitors. He did well in the mixed martial arts but was not angry enough to do well.  Or at least that's how it seemed to him.  In order to succeed at it you had to want to beat the other person.  Not just win, but beat them.  And he was not good at that. And the military didn't give him enough off time to compete.  Not to mention they took a dim view of soldiers competing in organized fights.     What he did like was the agility the training gave him and the size.  Both of which helped him in the SCA combat. William was able to work his way up in the SCA and even fought for King once.  But as much as he enjoyed the fighting the leather crafting was his main interest.  He made good leather armor, as well as tankards, belts, belt pouches, sword scabbards, and many other items.
While the SCA was his pastime, mechanic work was his work.  William enjoyed getting under the hood of a automobile, hummvee, plane or anything with a motor.  The service had trained him, as had his dad, and he was a good mechanic.  He built a few race cars and sold them, as well as mud buggies and other vehicles.
When the Event happened, William was at Mcghee-Tyson ANGB doing some training on the multi-fuel engines.
