Aleksandr Shcherbatykh

Aleksandr Shcherbatykh is not having a great year. He started it worrying about how to get a job after graduating high school- being a musician, his passion, doesn't pay very well in most cases, and his father's attempts to get him onto the factory assembly lines were a little much for a skinny, easily-bored kid. Then one night he overheard a phone conversation between his father and someone unknown talking about his mother... implying she was still alive. As far as he knew, she had died when he was too small to remember her. Some days Sasha wishes he hadn't- or had just asked his father- but he investigated.

Not only did he discover that his mother was alive, he discovered who she was: Shinju Tetsumiya, a singer apparently reasonably famous in her home country. Feeling an immediate connection, he kept digging, and while he discovered not much more about his mother, he found some interesting discrepancies in the way the factory was supposed to be putting pipes together and the safety standards, along with evidence something bad had already happened...

His luck didn't last forever. Eventually he got caught snooping, arrested, sent home to be yelled at by his father. Accusations and anger flew, and he found a deep, ancient rage building in him. Before he knew it, he was halfway out of town with his father's blood on his new paws. Maybe he killed him, maybe he didn't. He doesn't want to find out.

Since then, it's taken some trial and error, but he's gotten a basic idea of what he is and learned how to survive by listening to his new instincts. He's learned new things about himself and the world (one being he's not sure anymore whether or not he's supposed to be a boy) and followed the factory's money trail to their home offices in Kiev. Frustrated at his inability to contact his mother or learn more about that half of his life despite newfound freedom, he's channeled it into his inquisitiveness, and hopes that, even if the factory thing turns out to be boring, the large city will show him something he can sink his teeth into.
