Samindi
NAME: Samindi Ward (Sami)
RACE: Indian, biracial (Indian/American)
GENDER: Female
OCCUPATION: Student/Competitive Archer
AGE: 16
HEIGHT: 4'10"
WEIGHT: 76lbs
APPEARANCE
Act DLC: Family Matters.
Samindi has moderate brown skin, her complexion is darkened by thick layers of dirt which make Samindi's dark, ever moving eyes even more noticeable. Her hair is braided in a single braid which hangs down her back to her waist. While looking brushed and cared for there are still many sticks, leaves and pieces of flora stuck in her hair. She smells strongly of earth and damp, like a forest floor. Her short, very slim frame and big eyes show a girl possibly not quite into her adult years.
Her clothes are as dirty as the rest of her, a black singlet top hangs loosely from her undernourished frame, she wears what once were denim pants, now cut and torn down to shorts. A pair of thick wool socks under good quality, dark hiking boots cover her feet. A black leather arm bracer is laced on her left arm. A black, flat shoelace is looped and tied around her left forefinger, a bow sling which can be used at a moments notice.
A simple knife and black, leather quiver are on a wide belt around her hips and a couple dozen or so arrows of various design fill the quiver. A light backpack is worn over her shoulders, from the way the backpack sags it doesn't look like she carries many possessions with her. She carries a recurve bow which has been modified by removing the stabilizer, V-bar and side rod, making the competition bow look more like a traditional bow, much lighter and easier to carry. The bow with black carbon limbs has a satin finished aluminium riser in yellow and is only a few inches shorter than Samindi at 4'8" long. Skinned Gray Squirrel tail is tied eight inches from each limb tip, helping to silence the bow. It is clearly important to her as she holds it close and handles it with great familiarity.

PERSONALITY
Sami was a bit of a joker before the outbreak and had a ready smile for anyone. While generally a happy girl she was very sheltered by her parents. Her schooling was done in the afternoons and evenings by correspondance as most of day was taken by archery practice. She never had much contact with other kids her own age and was fairly awkward in social settings. Growing up in India with a lower quality of life caused her to never put on much weight or gain in brawn.
Act DLC: Family Matters.
Since the outbreak she is still friendly but incredibly wary, knowing she is a smaller girl and now undernourished and frail. She is aware of this weakness which has emphasised her caution, she looks like she is ready to flee at any moment. While she is careful around others, she is no coward, and has killed undead in the past few months but only when creeping past had failed or the undead were guarding places of interest. Sami can appear standoffish because she is wary but will usually engage with anyone who offers friendly conversation. While she has met and passed others, individual and groups, on her journeys over the recent months she has not connected or trusted anyone enough to travel with them until sickness and desperation forced her to seek help from Leonard, Mattie and Callie.
BACKGROUND
Sami was born in Surat, on the West coast of India, on November 26th 1987. Her father, Steve, was American who had moved to India after university to teach Engineering. Steve met Sami's mother, Amitha, in India and they were married in the country in a traditional Hindu ceremony. At the time of her birth Samindi had an older brother, Alexander, who was four years old. Sami's early years were spent in India, living and going to school in Surat. Her family weren't wealthy, with her father generating the only income for the household. She still remembers much of her early childhood years, of speaking Hindi at home, playing in the streets with the other children and of life being much simpler that her later years in America.
When Sami was six her father was retrenched as the university closed. Her family returned to America and settled in a small country town. Life was hard in America, her family had minimal savings and her father did odd jobs and repairs to make ends meet. However the family was happy and Sami remembers no sad times from her youth. Apart from school and church there was not much to pass the time with other children so Sami tagged along with her father while he was hunting and quickly took to handling a bow. She focused on this talent throughout her schooling and was always shooting practice targets or out with her father hunting wild game. As she grew older her family hired a coach and Sami entered into competitions, winning State Championships and competing nationally.
Her brother was absent overseas and Sami and her parents were on the way to the National Archery Competition when the outbreak hit their area. Driving on the interstate late at night their car crashed when it hit a group of walkers in the dark. When Sami awoke she was still in the back seat of the car, however the car was on its roof stuck against the trees in the roadside forest. Sami saw her mother lying motionless on the road with walkers around her, her father was still buckled in the front seat. Sami tried to wake her father, but as the walkers descended on her mothers corpse she grew terrified and ran. Taking what scant belongings she had with her on the back seat Sami fled into the forest to wait, her mother dead and father trapped and unconscious.
Sami fled deeper into the forest and hid in a hollow tree until morning. Upon morning she returned to the crash site to find both her father and mother missing. The drivers window had been smashed and the car boot opened, her father was no longer in the car. Where the walkers had attacked her mother there was no body, only a few shreds of clothing and her mothers opal necklace, broken at the clasp.
For the past months Sami has been hiding in forested areas, mostly avoiding contact with other people. She has hunted small game and fish and has recently taken to eating many of her kills raw as fire attracts the undead or other people. She has a limited supply of professionally made arrows which she is careful to look after and recover after using but can make handcrafted arrows which work almost as well. She has risked a few visits to isolated fuel stations and homesteads but she has always found the risk to be greater than the reward.

PERSONAL ITEMS
- Family PhotosOne photo is taken in deep forest, a young Samindi is kneeling behind
a slain deer with one arrow protuding from the base of its skull. A smiling
older, caucasian man, heavy set, is hugging her shoulders as they pose for the
photo. Both are wearing hunting camos and are holding bows.
Another photo is of Samindi and the same heavy set man with a slim, dark
skinned, middle aged woman and a teenaged boy, looking a few years older
than Samindi. The photo was taken at a beach in sunny weather and blue skies.
All four are wearing bathing suits, the man looks sunburned, flowers sit in
Samindi's hair. The group are not looking to the camera but to each other,
sharing in an unknown joke.
The third, and final, photo is old and faded. It is of a newborn infant girl,
held in the arms of a young, dark skinned, woman in a traditional Indian saree.
A large caucasian man dressed in a white shirt and sarong sits beside the
woman. They are both smiling towards the infant. A young boy stands behind the
man and is staring wide eyed at the infant girl. An old Indian man is tying a
gold chain around the infants waist.
- Opal NecklaceSamindi's mothers necklace, taken from where she last saw her mother's
body. It is old, worn and gold plated with a small, dull opal in the setting. It
holds no value and it is only sentimental. A gift to Saminidi's mother from her
father on their first Valentines Day together many years ago.
- Champion TrophyA small gold painted trophy in the shape of an archery target with
three arrows hitting the bullseye. Banged up and dented in places it is set on a
polished wooden base and includes a plaque that reads.NFAA
