Descendant form Polish stock, Paul Olkowski came to the U.S. shortly after the first World War changed.  While some men had experienced shell shock, coming back as hallow versions of their former selves, Paul had left the war with a renewed vigor and faith in the divine.  This mental stamina was sharply contrasted by the man's appearance, for the boisterous Pole stepped off the boat in New York as an unnaturally pale skinned, gaunt, and cold skinned man.  Utterly devout, he quickly found himself within the ranks of the Lancea Sanctum, taking the title very literally and taking up the Spear in defense of his twisted faith.

Paul views his Embrace as his salvation, a chance to cleanse himself of the evils of his youth by striking fear and terror into the hearts of any who might chose to partake of the path of sin.  He is a loud and excitable man, large despite his withered skin and shallow cheeks, prone to intense indulgences in his emotions.  At Elysium functions, he is often seen wearing full plate mail reinforced with Kevlar, and it is rumored that he crafted the armor himself.
