Welcome to Detroit: Broken Traditions [Vampire: Blood and Smoke]

16:12, 4th May 2024 (GMT+0)

Kira

Status: City 1
Status: Daeva 1
Status: Circle of the Crone 1
Territory: Martin Park

The younger vampires might call the witch's fashion "Boho Chic;" the older would merely call it "contemporary." Probably with a practiced sneer. Tonight, Kira wore a vest adorned with small rough-hewn gemstones and charms over a jade calf-length dress with a large, brilliant, colorful mandala emblazoned on the front radiating from her waist. Below the dress, she wore calf-length brown split-leather boots, and atop her head a teal wide-brimmed hat - more Stetson than Crocodile Hunter - with a band of small brass medallions busy with tiny trinkets wrapped around the crown.

Step 1:  Character name/Clan/Covenant

Kira, a Daeva Crone

Step 2: Who you were.

Kira grew up here in Detroit as a relatively unremarkable member of the lower-middle class raised by a single mother. She was a mediocre student who preferred art and clubs to academia. She went on to get a liberal arts degree at University of Detroit Mercy, graduating just in time for the Great Recession, and subsequently discovering that there were no good jobs to be had for a young woman like her.

Minimum wage jobs full of drudgery and a diet of ramen, rice and beans, and the occasional splurge for fast food was how she survived as a young adult. She was only materially poor, though; she led a rich social life fostered through various online social networks and the local art scene - the same story as a million other starving artists in the country.

Step 3: Why they took you.

On its face, the reason Kira was taken was simple: Pembe, an ancient Daeva Crone, needed a guide in this strange, modern world after resting in torpor for so long. But why her? In truth, Pembe's childe Renata chose her more than Pembe did. Renata noticed her based on her talent in art uncommon for someone as young as her in this day and age. She inspired her interest with her craft and eloquence - not only was she an accomplished artist, but she had passionate opinions on a variety of subjects, including feminism, which the Crone did not fail to note. Eager to learn, eager to help, and eager to move up in the world, Kira easily took to Renata's guidance.

Step 4:  How you survived.

Kira's proclivities oddly made the transition from living to unliving easier than expected - as a mortal, she had a fascination with symbology, mythology, witchcraft, and several other flavors of alleged occult. Over the past five years, while she was largely cloistered away learning to be a vampire in her own right, she also exhibited incredible talent for Cruac. She incorporated much of her own brand of occultism in to her own brand of mysticism and practice of magick and, surprising no one more than her, it has worked out quite well for her. The affinity that she developed in five years rivaled that of Acolytes who had been practicing for decades.

Her brand was a peculiar one - cobbled together from the musings and poetry and traded rituals of women on online social networks who fancied themselves witches, it was nihilistic, ferocious, and all too palatable for the young women of her generation who found themselves oppressed from seemingly every angle. She learned from her new blood relatives how to take advantage of this and cultivate not only a herd but a personal myth of her own.

Mask: Cult Leader

Step 5:  Who you are now.

Under the tutelage of the Verdant Crown, the surrogate family she lives with in Indian Village, Kira has become a quite adept neonate. She's learned how to cast spells in the style of her Circle, to hunt in the style of a Daeva, to teach mortals of her divinity, to influence the minds of others with her Beast, and even to tend a 'garden' of plants that feast on blood, yet still she hungers for more. While she raises the funds she needs for her necessities through crowdfunded artistry, she is a student, first and foremost, and now that she's ready to venture from the nest, Kira will learn all she can of this secret nocturnal society.

Dirge: Guru

Step 6:  What you will become.

Kira knows relatively little of the Danse Macabre outside of her coterie, but she's eager to learn about it and to become a part of it just as much as she wishes to continue to integrate herself into covenant outside of her coterie and grow her power further.
