Whisper Delacroix

Name: Whisper Joy Bernadette Delacroix

Nickname / Alias: Bernie (to her friends, which she secretly hates)

Nephalim Name: Ezra of the Third Choir, begotten of Michael, Herald of the Righteous Fire

Gender: Female

Age / Birthday: 18 /  September 29th, 1996 (born on the Feast of Saint Michael)

Character Model:

Appearance: Possessed of an eye-catching beauty, Bernie is hard to miss even in a crowd of people. Her bright blue eyes, vibrant blonde hair and radiant skin make her pop no matter what she wears. It’s a blessing and a curse. Short but curvaceous, she’s a natural beauty with soft cherubic features and an expression that is warm and inviting. Her good looks and gentle demeanor often leave Bernie the  object of unwanted attention and conversation. Bernie is 5ft5.

When the spark of divinity stirs in her and her nephilim nature manifests she appears as unto an angel of The Lord with broad, feathered wings of purest white and surrounded in a luminous glow. In this form she is taller and more athletic with a regal bearing and powerful presence. As Ezra of the Third Choir she is typically clad in flowing white wraps reminiscent of traditional angelic art and she carries a beautiful broad-bladed sword reminiscent of a gladius, etched with glowing enochian runes.

Personality: Bernie is in many ways everything one might expect of an angelic being: tender, thoughtful, compassionate, and serene. In essence, she's a good person. But in many ways she's also very human. She can, at times, be impulsive (if well-intentioned) and she can be naive, eager to see the best in anyone (including her friends, who at at times are less than noble).  That said she is not without her vices. Bernie enjoys nothing more than lounging in bed watching television or pigging out on sweets that society tells her she shouldn't eat.

There is a large and secret part of Bernie that longs to deny her angelic heritage, to shy away from the great burden thrust upon her and live the life of a young woman looking forward to prom and the adulthood that teeters on the verge before her. But in the end she cannot deny what she is.

As Ezra of the Third Choir, she is righteous and powerful, but naive. She does not appreciate the natural duplicity inherent in the forces of evil and relies heavily on her superior physicality and divine power to rebuke, repel and smite evil where she finds it. Ezra is very much a guns blazing sort of hunter who similarly is in no way savvy to the very modern threats that might harm her such as gunfire, explosives and other such risks.

History: Bernie's history is not a complex one though the history of her kind is. She is born of the blood of the Archangel Michael, a birthright that has descended through the ages. While all who trace their blood back through the ages to their initial nephalim progenitors are nephalim in name and benefit from great health and beauty, very few in modern nights awaken to the full glory of that birthright.

Initially bred as weapons and agents of war by the angels of heaven, fewer and fewer nephalim have awakened to their divinity as the the ages have passed and the war between Heaven and Hell has receded further and further into the shadows. Each nephalim traces their blood back to an angel and when their blood stirs they manifest angelic powers of their own. What causes this awakening is the subject of great debate but those nephalim who have managed to convene believe it to be some source in heaven. The nephalim of Michael have always been warriors and all Nephalim through some trick of fate share the same birthday. The nephalim on a whole are regarded with a mixture of admiration and suspicion. In many ways they are the disposable elite of Heaven, a paradise for which they feel compelled by blood and bond to fight, and yet a paradise they are unable to attend in life the same way their progenitors do.

Born Whisper Joy Bernadette Delacroix, Bernie is the daughter of an atheist father and a pious Catholic mother. A doctor and a school teacher respectively, Bernie's parents are both kind and wholesome people who have absolutely no idea their daughter is in fact an avenging half-angel waging a war against the monsters and demons that roam the streets.

Raised Catholic by her mother, Bernie grew up lazily religious; a piety more engendered of a desire to satisfy her mother than any deep-seated belief. A Sunday Catholic.

Until her 16th birthday, religion seemed like one of those things people put their faith in to make themselves feel better. It was nice, but without substance. And then all that changed.

Her dreams were fraught with vivid dreams in which she knelt before a tribunal of unseen judges, their faces and features obscured by impossible light. And there they laid upon her the yoke of duty, blessing her with glorious purpose.  She awoke to find herself naked and resplendent in a forest clearing, bathed in light, with wings upon her back and great purpose in her heart. A great tome lay at her feet and a sword rested in her hand. The Book of Enoch, containing the mysteries and the history of the her kind.

Fastforward a couple years and you find Bernie very much in the same place you would have found her before, a second-string popular girl in one of the cool cliques where she's welcomed more for her athletic abilities and looks than an appropriately elitist attitude. Some of the girls in the clique are ones she was friends with in younger and simpler days and she does her very best to steer them away from cruelty form the back row without getting overtly involved in the bullying and political maneuvering that goes on. If she's being honest with herself, she's really turning something of a blind eye to some of it and she could be doing a lot more.

By night she's just recently started venturing out as Ezra and is still very much testing the waters though she does so with a righteous conviction.
