Magic Percentage: Entropy is 41%, Druidism 2%, Abjuration 1%, Conjuration 1% - but he doesn't know that yet

Special Skills: He is very well-read and knowledgeable on a variety of topics; he can ride (barely); he can play the cittern; He is a decent shot with a musket and pistol, and is a serviceable swordsman; he is keen on gardening and cooking, especially Indian cuisine; he can read and craft maps; he has a good head for money and finances.

History: Born in 1814 in London to a Scottish family who claim an indirect connection to Clan Douglas in the Scottish Highlands; his father, Archibald Douglas, moved his family to when he was 4 to Madras after his employ with the British East India Company, where he made a fortune as an importer/exporter.  Edward was educated initially in Delhi, and then in England at Winchester at age 12, until 18; then his commission as a Lieutenant for the Company was purchased by his father, and he served in Bengal under the Lord Metcalfe from 1832 to 1836, then under the Earl of Auckland when he became Governor-general in 1836, and was sent north to serve the Company during border clashes in Nepal with the Gorkha. In 1838, he was sent with his company to fight in Kabul against Dost Mohammed Khan and his illegitimate Afghan armies, first against tribesmen at the Bolan Pass, then in Kandahar against the Afghans.  In early December 1839 he inadvertently foiled a sneak attack by a battalion of Khilji tribal fighters set to ambush his regiment on patrol in the hills' region near Ghazni.  His unexpected heroism earned him a promotion to Captain, and then through his father’s connections in the Company he was raised to the Viscount of Belhaven (a title extinct since 1639, and originally given to a Douglas), with an annual royal stipend of 800 pounds a year.  Released from his duties with the Company, he returned to London in mid-March of 1840 to establish himself in Society.  His father owns and runs Douglas Import/Export, one of the largest English trading companies in India, importing to and exporting from India and the Empire.

Family: Wealthy merchants living in India; his mother and father are still alive; he has an older brother, Robert, who is married and is still with the Company in Delhi.
