Kaeleigh Moore
Determined, intelligent, brave and responsible, Kae is good at improvising on her feet while following what she feels is the intent of her expectations. She, at one time in her life, trusted those she needed to when she was instructed to do so, everyone had a job and everyone did what they were expected to, and when that changed, when she was betrayed, her somewhat fragile worldview on trust was completely, irrecoverably shattered. She once loved and lived for the company of her unit, of her lover, but actively discourages people from forming bonds with her now, keeps herself distant, detached and focused on her duties, volunteers for jobs that require long, tedious, lonely hours and has earned herself a reputation for working in tight, confined, claustrophobic spaces without complaint.

She was pretty once and could be again if she made even a slight effort, not quite forty Kae has a smile lines, leftovers from her previous life, and if she were to ever let her stonewalled expression crack she'd do herself a service, the same can be said of her hair, which she once kept neatly buzzed but now wears wild. She showers before going to bed as a rule and however she wakes is how she carries herself through the day, if it wasn't a chic, sometimes in vogue look it'd be atrocious.

She's tall besides, almost six feet, and has wide, strong shoulders, she had plenty of muscle mass once but abandoned that life long ago and has a utilitarian look to her now, soft strength instead of fit, muscles covered with a layer of bad dietary habits and cheap beer. As dull as her skin is the one thing that never lost it's polish is her eyes, the woman she was still lingers there and sometimes, when someone glances at her just right, that woman's former splendor shines bright. It's Kae's one saving grace, the one thing that no matter what she does she can't taint with her steadfast dedication to a soul crushing outlook on life.

History
Kae never felt like she had much of a choice in who she was, her mother and father were soldiers and ran the house with military style efficiency, she called her father 'sir' and her mother 'ma'am' and was treated more like a little soldier then a little girl. She attended military school and enlisted the same day she graduated as she was expected to, basic was a rush of impressed senior staff and disgruntled fellow recruits; once through Kae found herself headed into Direct Action Special Forces training and soon became a part of a Space Ranger regiment.

A dependable soldier, Kae was deployed on several successful missions, some of which were classified as black ops, and would have most likely been considered for a higher class of training if not for the unfortunate circumstance of her gender. Nearly a decade in Kae met Danielle Dani Dawson, a waitress at Rusty's Pub and Grill, a down homey style bar on Marsbase 8 Kae and other members of her unit often went to unwind, and sparks flew, a surprise to just about everyone, including Kae herself.

Flirting was awkward for Kae but Dani found that enduring, enjoyed being chased and chasing too, teasing and being teased, when things began to look like they were getting serious Dani put a firm stop to it. She'd sleep with someone she liked but wouldn't allow herself to love anyone that couldn't promise they'd be home tomorrow, a soldier's life wasn't their own, they lived to serve and while she respected the Hell out of that, she just couldn't give more or herself and until Kae's life was her own, what they had was what they had.

Certain of her feelings, of what she wanted for herself for once, Kae attempted to have herself discharged and failed, she had proven herself to valuable an asset to loose and was forced to go AWOL. Kae didn't tell Dani her plans to do any of this however and when she did things didn't go the way they were supposed to, Dani, it turned out, had multiple partners and preferred the life she had to the one Kae wanted them to share. Dani liked what she called 'safe' relationships, ones she knew wouldn't ever get too serious cos they couldn't and now that Kae had crossed that line, they were done.

Angry and brokenhearted Kae roughly shoved Dani away in the heat of a vicious argument and, to her horror, unwittingly caused a cardiac arrhythmia, stopping Dani's heart. Charged with involuntary manslaughter Kae was dishonorably discharged and sentenced to six years in prison where she was placed in the Maintenance program and trained to become a fully licensed mechanic, a job she quietly perused upon her release five years into her sentence.
