Rosegold Aleya

Name: Rosegold Aleya
Age: 15

Appearance: Rosegold has the appearance of someone going through a belated growth spurt - in spite of her active lifestyle she has a lanky build, like she's meant to be on the tall side but hasn't fully grown into it yet. She has a fair, almost pale complexion. Her hair is long, glossy, and black. Her eyes are red, but one is bright and inquisitive and the other dull and unmoving, with its blindness often covered by an eyepatch. She tends to dress in the national colors of her home country, red and black, echoed in her own coloration. She usually wears heavy clothing, especially to cover up various small scars.
Uniform: Whatever the first-year default is, although Rosegold usually adds some accessories of her own: besides her eyepatch, she usually carries an umbrella and some jewelry.

Personality: Rosegold is an odd duck and usually off-putting to those that don't know her well. Her danger-filled, martial upbringing has left her jumpy and paranoid on the one hand, and boisterous and short-tempered on the other. She's not stupid, though, and she recognizes objectively that she's not going to the Academy to make trouble or enemies. She thus makes an effort to act calm and friendly, although it's usually not hard to see through it. Unless she really does like someone, anyways, in which case the friendliness wouldn't be an act, but she finds it difficult to trust people outside of her own clan.

Strengths: Nimble, tough, and fairly strong. Skilled and inventive in a fight. Sharp senses, including an almost supernatural sense of smell. Good at recognizing and handling natural hazards. Comes from wealth and has a devoted family (for what good that will do in an isolated academy). Good with money and trade. Unusually for her background, she likes music and is a pretty good dancer, although she rarely has opportunities to practice.
Weaknesses: Blind in one eye, which is especially bad for her archery skills. Jumpy and overreactive to stimuli, especially with her reduced range of vision, which can make her seem like she suffers from physical tics. Can't swim, and is kind of hydrophobic. She can be slow at routine physical tasks. Getting dressed, for example, requires checking her clothes and shoes for spiders and scorpions. People who recognize her origin tend to assume they'll get sick just from being around her. Unfamiliar with most nobility and royal manners.
Fatal Flaw: Family loyalty. Rosegold's parents are warlike tribal leaders, while her siblings and cousins include raiders, poisoners, and witches. Rosegold was selected as a princess candidate for being a relatively lighthearted representative of her homeland, but even if she was somehow to attain some sort of position, her family would promptly become the sort of dark regents and advisors that are swiftly deposed in Cascade. Rosegold is aware of this and has little hope for her chances, but her family insists she try, putting her in a difficult position.
Dream in life: To somehow make her family happy and proud, while also shaking herself and maybe even them free of the danger and conflict of her home. She recognizes that this is a "dream in life" and not a "realistic goal in life."
Song: Ori and the Blind Forest - Completing the Circle

Biography: Rosegold is the daughter of tribal leaders of Harraf, a land known for wealth, danger, and strife. Her parents and the miners under them control some of the richest veins of gold and iron in the region, such that she and her siblings were free of hunger but especially involved in warfare. She grew up learning the spear, bow, and net, how to hunt and avoid being hunted. Rosegold did well at her education, but unlike her siblings was more peaceful by nature in dealing with human opponents.

Everyone in Harraf must grow up wary of nature, but nobody can be perfect at it. Rosegold's scars, mostly on her arms and legs, testify to a childhood spent dodging poisonous plants, stinging insects, leeches, and larger predators. But her worst injury was caused by a splash of stagnant water during a storm. Infection set in immediately, and partial blindness followed. Combined with her relative pacifism (the girl had no problem with self-defense but didn't like attacking others unprovoked, a necessity in Harraf's territorial disputes), it was this event that led her parents to give up on her as a warrior and have her trained as a merchant instead. The invitation to Silver Crown Academy came not long after that, though, and her parents sensed opportunity. They outfitted her for war, in case there was going to be some kind of royal free-for-all for the title, and sent her off.

Fun facts: Rosegold is very fond of soft things, and her wardrobe tends to reflect that, both in materials and the occasional inclusion of animal motifs. Also, her people tend to go in for thematic names. She's named for a metal alloy, and her family's name is another word for the will-o-wisps that haunt the swamps of her home.
