Lia the Silverpaw

Name: Lia the Silverpaw

Age: 16

Appearance: The result of a union between the Sidhe forest fiefs and their peaceful unification a coastal kingdom, Lia's appearance might strike many as odd. Pointed ears poke out of white locks, not quite as otherworldly as the elves yet not quite. . .normal as a human might be. Though barely a child by elven standards, physically she boasts the appearance of a teenager settling into a major growth spurt. Thin and lithe, she dresses as simply as possible given any occasion, leggings and a sweater her usual garb. Large glasses frame eyes that always seem to shift, hazel and green the dominant colors. Lia's title stems from the silvery birthmark on her palm, often covered by either gloves or ringbands, a common set of handware among mages.
Uniform:  Lia's uniform is very utilitarian, preferring a half-robe with the Sylduran crest stitched over a shoulder. Several clasps hang off a hip, usually used to secure a spellbook and wand.

Personality:
Though only half-elven, Lia has the stereotypical Elven haughtiness down as well as most full-grown Elves. In all reality, this is a facade to hide her social awkwardness and silly tendencies. Underneath racial stereotyping is an infinitely inquisitive mind, eager to try new things, (hopefully) make new friends, and have fun.

Strengths: Lia is incredibly intelligent and booksmart. An aspiring magician, she's also an adept problem-solver and skilled in the arcane arts. She's also very laid-back and slow to anger and, in many situations, more observant than she lets on.

Weaknesses:
Lia is often off in her own little world, and is a textbook example of a lazy genius. She's also incredibly gullible and easily manipulated by people she cares about.

Fatal Flaw: Self-Confidence. Though more accomplished than most magicians making a living back home, Lia has grown up catching whispers everywhere she's gone. A symbol to the Sylduran-Sidhe nation, of union between humans and elves, untouchable and steadfast. . .Yet unapproachable and half-breed. Lia knows full well the reputation half-elves have, knowing no true home between the humans who see haughtiness and the elves who see impatience, and fully believes that her parents are the only thing keeping others from labelling her the same. Try as she might to assign herself worth, all she really sees are the accomplishments of her mother and father.
Dream: No concrete dream, but Lia often dreams of living in a lab on an island with nothing but her lab, some close friends she has yet to make, and endless possibility.

Biography: The only child of the King of Syldur and the high Priestess of the Aos Sidhe courts, Lia the Silver Paw (Or on most official transcripts, "Lia Silverpaw") was born during a tumultuous yet entirely peaceful unification of the coastal Magocracy of Syldur and the Aos Sidhe forests bordering them. Due to a major restructuring in both land's governing bodies, Lia was often seen and praised as the bond between nations yet never really interacted with the public unless taught and instructed in what to say or do.

Where most kids turned to fairytales and stories, Lia began trying to imitate her mother and father, often stealing away to practice magic in her father's study, an unfortunate fire leading to a very stern lecture and perhaps the only quality time she received with her parents. Instead of those tales, she was taught to read by studying spellbooks, scrolls, druidic texts, and by the time she was 10 her appointed lady-in-waiting often had trouble dragging her out of the labs to sleep, much less eat.

Fun Facts:
-Her parents are concerned of Lia's "Disturbing lack of interest in boys."

-She can actually see quite well. Due to an unknown biological difference between elves and humans, half-elves have terrible eyesight during the day and nigh-perfect visibility at night. The problem wasn't discovered until the beginning of her teenage years. Her enchanted glasses correct that issue.

-She's terrible at singing, dancing, and playing instruments. That doesn't stop her from enchanting an entire orchestra from time to time to play for her! It isn't cheating if no one sees her, and no one can complain if she's dancing and singing on her own!

-Her familiar was originally a sight-pet. It has since been elevated to "Keeper of the glasses," on account of how frequently Lia tends to misplace them.

Kingdom:
The Sylduran-Sidhe nation is a newly joined kingdom of the magacracy of Syldur and the Aos Sidhe Forests lying on the western edge of Cascade on an isolated peninsula. Syldur is small, hosting only three cities, or colleges, yet often receives frequent visits from trading ships and caravans. the Aos Sidhe forests surround the peninsula and have largely nothing noteworthy aside from landmarks many druids stop at on pilgrimages.

Ask in any other kingdom about Syldur, and odds are the reaction will be nervous laughter or rolled eyes. Mages are the ruling class, though they would have you believe only mages exist in Syldur, and it isn't uncommon for. . .curosities to happen in the land in the name of experimentation. The only reason people continually make the trip is the mages dedication to guests safety (Mostly) and the amount of truly useful items one can get from them. Being foremost in the arcane arts comes with an uncertainty with regards to value, and oftentimes traders can make five or six times as much profit.

The Aos Sidhe forest, on the other hand, is viewed with a combination of fear and disdain. A common place for bandit attacks, caravans often tread carefully or not at all. With the recent unification between both kingdoms, the newly created Sylduran-Sidhe nation was negotiated with the intent of providing better accessibility to the isolated colleges.

Sylduran naming conventions eschew standard surnames in favor of titles, though recognition of that title is based on birth and standing within society. Nobility (Professors, rulers, politicians, acclaimed and/or powerful magi), is generally referred to in title only, whilst middle class (Teachers, shop-owners, established mages) make a distinction of speaking the name and title, and low-class (Talentless mages, mundane people) have a title if they were born within Syldur, but will never use it.
