Jack Maynard is a fairly average man who, at first glance, lives an average life. 5' 9", 160 lbs, black hair, brown eyes, and nothing physically to stand out from a crowd. Jack's career follows a similarly nondescript path: after flunking out of university, Jack spent twelve years as a undistinguished broker and paralegal for his brokerage before resigning without any fanfare.

The complete lack of anything noteworthy in his career -- and lack of visible desire for more -- hides the truth: Jack wants excitement. Having found an opportunity to do a side gig smuggling illicit goods -- and having hired a drifter named Mario Girotti to help him make it happen -- Jack finally found the excitement he was looking for in his life. With a new goal in mind, Jack resigned from his role at the brokerage to pursue that newfound excitement.
