Haru was installed on all of the ships as a form of autopilot, and given several different bodies so that she could tend to the ship during the voyage. In addition, she is plugged into most of the pieces of technology on the ship. It was obvious that she was an attempt to preserve human history, technology, and culture. Haru seems to be capable of experiencing emotions (such as love, joy, and irritation) as well.
