Note: The reasons for Cato taking a step down as Lead Mentor is one of great public speculation, and no two gossip magazine has been able to determine the exact cause. What is even more confusing is Cato, as Lead Mentor, trained and prepared the Contestants to one of the most successful Fruition Trails in recent history, yet instead of returning to his celebrated post, the position has gone to his friend and former mentee, Six.

Note: It is speculated by the Valport Weekly and the Gossip Magazine that Cato is quite the experienced drunk, but not an alcoholic. Alcoholics go to meetings.

Appearance: A lifetime of physical training is apparent in the hale man, and so is his access to various forms of wealth. Cato stands at about six feet with the balanced musculature of a hand to hand martial artist and a series of white scars across his thighs, chest, and forearms indicate that his body has been put to the test. Most people never see these scars, however, because he is dressed crisply in a military cut leather jacket or a tailored suit and gold watch with onyx roman numerals rimming the face.

For the most part he carries himself like a man who's confidence has been earned, though his humor might not be. As one of Valport's most famous and loved Conquerors of the Fruition Trials, he's a household name and face for the masses; he doesn't mind this (usually) as his high profile has taken the brunt of the post-trial attention and allowed the only other contestant he survived with to live a life away from the voyeurs known as the Valport public.

Note: The SPYder bots have caught several images of the famed Lead Mentor in uncharacteristic fits of melancholy where his dark eyes go blank and he can do nothing but sit on a couch and drink. Reasons for this melancholy are unknown. Which young lady of Valport has broken this man's heart? All tabloids will pay a substantial amount for any information.

Most of the major hair care brands have recruited him at one point or another to do hair commercials, especially for treatments preventing male-pattern baldness.

Personality: The public knows Cato for giving witty and memorable interviews and having a good mind for both strategy and interpersonal communication. He jokes, smiles often, and is one of the more sought-after bachelors in Valport after his successful trials, and even more successful training as Lead Mentor. Those he has trained don't always like him, but those that respected and listened to him had a higher chance of surviving and those that didn't. His biggest critics often remark how he needled his fellow contestants with verbal jabs until the subject is pushed to fight.

Note: Six offhandedly mentioned in an interview with Valport News that this needling of Cato's is the reason he and Six became best friends... after they both landed in the hospital from a fight.

History: Snap at the small insults and smile at the big ones, that way no one can truly know your heart. That was the advice given to Cato by his mother the day that he was named a contestant of the Fruition Trials twelve years ago. As it turns out, he was remarkably well suited to the Trials as he was quick on his feet and perceptive, and of all his peers he was marked early on as the leader of the pack. He already had a good amount of self-confidence from growing up in a Vanguard family and serving for five years. When asked before the Traitor Trials why he signed up, he said it was for the glory of Valport; after, however, the answers were never televised.

Note: He's said to Nineteen Magazine during its "Sexiest Men of 2215" issue that "I was drawn in by the lure of fame and fortune. A folly of youth to believe that happiness is so easily acquired." For obvious reasons, Nineteen decided on another pull quote and made a shirtless indoor rock climbing photo the centerfold.

The viewership spiked for the Fruition Trials, temporarily renamed the Traitor Trials, as at home audiences sat at the edge of their couches to see if Cato and his fellow Contestants would discover who the Traitor was.

Likes and Dislikes: It's been well documented that he enjoys stargazing, and used his winnings from his Fruition Trials to open a kids' camp for astronomy, math, and robotics with Artemus, the only other survivor of the trials twelve years ago. Oddly enough the most successful student of his turned into a science fiction author, and Cato has been reading those books more. He also has a like for crossword puzzles and redheads, and dislikes big meaty hands and hospitals.

Known Associates:
Dr. Felmoore: Jordan Felmoore was Cato's Mentor for the Traitor Trials, and pushed the young man to his limits. Cato was a particularly vexing pupil because his years with the Vanguard meant Jordan had a lot of untraining to do, but the cantankerous old man succeeded and it was Felmoore's two mentees that survived. The two have remained close to this day, though with a rather interesting dynamic. Several SPYderbots have caught on film the younger man drunk and the older man barking at him until Cato goes to his room.

Six: During the Twelve Trials, Cato Mentored a larger group than normal, and one of those Contestants was Malachi Methace. Cato pushed Malachi, hard, and gifted him his nickname, and the tense relationship between the two during training was well documented; however, the training must have done something right because Six survived when nearly everyone else died. Afterwords both were in the Vanguard boarder patrol, got into a fight, got sent to the hospital, and have been fast friends ever since. They call each other "Brother by Bond."
