The Great Beast of Rimegast is nearly 30 feat tall, huge, horned and lupine, dressed in heavy dark grey plate armor and a cloak of fresh-blood crimson. His lupine mien is monstrous; and his black eyes are pitiless; and in another world he have been king of the beasts.

Carhal Mordlain leads "the Hunt," Midthrir's perennial search for corruption in the Thicket; for this Carhal is often called the Huntmaster. However, his true title is High Justice, and is the second in command of all the city-state. He rules Rimegast in Midthrir's absence, and act's with the same full authority. Midthrir's dog, he is called by some.

Although he now serves his master and Rimegast as High Justice, once upon a time he was but a forest conjurer. He drew upon dangerous magics which twisted the wood and drew dark creatures into being. Midthrir had come to the wood to exorcise Carhal but stayed his weapon and instead offered Carhal a choice - death or service. Carhal chose the latter and has never wavered since.
