Background

Max was a kid science prodigy, and even before his teens, he gained the attention of some of the brightest scientific minds of this era.  He made breakthroughs in subspace communication and warp theory as well as shattering the theory of quantum singularities.

In his teen years he was recruited by the Federation Science Council to host a virtual learning program, where his good looks and rebel attitude toward authority earned him a teen idol status among his generation.

When Vulcan was destroyed, he applied to join Starfleet, despite a promising career as a celebrity civilian scientist.  Against the advice of several ranking officers, Max was scandalously fast-tracked through the academy.  Despite the dissenting voices, Max's celebrity status among student scientists was used to boost science officer recruitment into Starfleet to levels previously unmatched.

He served for almost a year aboard the USS Sagan, before Captain Tabin personally requested him to transfer to the Vigilant -- a transfer that was approved by Starfleet -- a transfer that came with a promotion to Lieutenant.
