Arell has the look of an old soldier, lean craggy face, intense stare and a build that reminds you more of old gnarled trees than a man just entering his twilight years.

Which seems strange for a man of papers and ledgers.

He has served in the magister's office for fifteen years now.  Greeted patrons pleasantly, helped them fill out paperwork, mediated disputes, and occasionally walked the town drunk home from the tavern.  Not given to violence, not overly fond of drink or women (although he does partake of both).

A strange man, truth be told.  Part of the town, but not really part of the community.

The greatsword over his desk might be a good clue as to why.
