Efrem Khenzada was born and raised on a ranch in the foothills of Wyeming Mountains. His father had spent time in the Muster, and had seen combat offworld. Efrem is the youngest of 11 children and a seventh son, which meant that according to the custom of Perleria, he was made a freeman and given an education.

He excelled in his studies, and became a “Pathcanon,” a member of the Orthodoxy who would travel between remote villages in the wilds beyond Larrane. He’s built up a modicum of trust and good will in the villages, and takes his pastoral responsibilities seriously.

At the same time, the church establishment in Lorrane does not fully view him as a true member, as he was born a serf. This usually does not bother him, though there have been exceptions.
