Desirae

Current Name: Desirae
True Name: Forgotten over time
Nickname:
Race/Ethnicity: Unknown
Age: Appears to be in her early to mid 20s
Weight: 125 lb
Height: 5'6"
Distinguishing Marks: Numerous tattoos on various parts of her body
Eye Color: Green(human form)/Purple(true form)
Hair Color: Red(human form)/Silver(true form)

Species: Genie

Appearance: Desirae can change her appearance at will, but currently prefers to appear as a petite yet curvy redhead with pale skin. The one thing that stays the same no matter how she looks are the tattoos that cover her body, although in her human form they are disguised to look like normal tattoos instead of the intricate spell designs that cover her true form. In her true from, she has a silver to purple skin color, depending on how strong she currently is.

Personality: Desirae is typically a very quiet and reservered girl. Over the years her self-esteem has continued to get smaller due to the many Masters that she has had to serve. She is accustomed to always having to make others happy instead of focusing on herself. Her personality however changes and is sculpted depending on her current Master. Deep down however, Desirae has a strong curiousity for the world and a desire to please.

Powers/Abilities:
Elemental Manipulation: She possesses the ability to manipulate and use the elements to her will but her focus is on fire. As a human she has a small amount of control over this, but in her true form the power is strongest.
Appearance Alteration/Shapeshifting: Desirae can alter her appearance to suit the situation and who her master is.
Reality Warping/Illusions: She can create, change, destroy, or even alter reality just by thinking about it.
Wish Granting: As a genie, Desirae has the ability to grant wishes of others, manifesting the desires of others and themselves into reality and make their wildest dreams come true. Unlike genies of stories, there is no limit to the number of wishes that can be granted, only limits on the wishes power. Whoever is in possession of her relic is her Master and in control of her wishes, although if she had no Master she would have the capability to grant wishes to whoever she wanted.
Smoke Form: When Desirae is able to enter her true form, she has the capability of transforming herself into a purple smoke
Summoning: Desirae must teleport to any location needed when she is summoned by her Master or she is commanded to go there.
Teleportation:The ability to move instantaneously from one location to another without physically occupying the space in between.
True Form: In her true form Desirae has multiple abilities that she does not possess in her human form. This include enhanced speed, strength, senses and durability.

Drawbacks:
Binding/Enslavement: As a genie, Desirae is subject to the enslavement by a Master. Whoever possess the relic that she is bound to is in complete control of her being and she must do as they ask, essentially a slave to their will. There are two ways that she can be freed from a Master. The first is if he/she wishes for her to be released from their service. The second is the death of the Master.

Background: Desirae doesn't remember much of her history. The years  have been long and there are many times that she has made herself forget. Mostly, they have all been the same repeating story for her, she is enslaved by a Master, forced to serve them for a few years and then she is moved on to the next Master. Same ordeal all over again. Her life has been like a record on repeat for centuries. Millennia even. During her time on the planet she has seen the world many times over and watched the rise and fall of many civilizations. She has watched man evolve and become more technologically advanced. However their wishes often remain the same. "I wish for wealth." "I wish for power." "I wish for love." Even though there are limitations to the power she can grant through wishes she finds ways to give the Masters what they want. She has to, as when she is enslaved, she loses all of her free will to go against them.

Fast forward to now. Desirae has been under the service of the same cruel master for the last decade. While some of those who have been in control of her have given her some opportunity to express herself in her own way, her current master makes sure that he controls every single aspect of her life, from what she eats, to what she wear, to what she does for work. Currently, he requires her to work as a dancer at the Rumour Lounge and entertain his high profile guests that come to Sanctuary for 'business,' although she has never found out what this 'business' he runs is.

That was then. Only a week ago. A insignificant amount of time in the grand scheme of things, but during that week everything that Desirae had ever known was turned upside down. The following describes how her life changed as told my Rath, the Nephilim that freed her and taught her how to live and how to love.

It had been a strange thing for the Nephilim. He had lived for thousands of years, walked amongst the mortals. Experienced all the things life had to give him, from the deepest sorrow to the pinnacle of happiness. Men and women were born, lived and died, each following their own free will. It was a fascinating tapestry.

Yet despite his years and his own celestial beginnings, Rath kept himself at a distance. It was painful enough to watch his friends grow old and die, and he could not bring himself to accept the greatest gift that had been bestowed upon humanity. Love. It was the most powerful tenet that they had been given, and yet despite himself he knew she had captured his heart the moment he laid eyes upon her.

Desirae.

She was old as well, a djinn, and yet her Master was a cruel man, full of nothing but abuse and vitriol. Though it was a punishable offense, Rath called down judgment upon the man, incinerating him utterly, not only his body, but his soul. He ceased to be. No Heaven. No Hell.

Nothing.

He had taken Des under his wing, protecting her, showing her how to live, and showing her how to love. Yet, despite his best intentions, she was still not free. Not completely.  There was only one way to do that, and Rath set into motions those cogs, knowing that it would be his unraveling. yet it was a sacrifice he willingly made for the only woman that he had ever loved.

As he called down all the power of Heaven that he could muster, Rath could only hope that she would remember him. He softly spoke those words that he had said to her before the first time they had made love.

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

As the words left him, and the power poured through him, Rath set upon himself his own undoing. Yet it was all worthwhile for Desirae would be free. No longer bound by word or deed to those who would use her or abuse their power over her.

One last time he gazed at her longingly, lovingly, where she lay sleeping. She would wake, and his letter would explain it all. This was his path. His tapestry to weave. His choice.

For love.
