Eskil Asgersson

Group: (Vikings)

Name: Eskil Asgersson
Age: 28
Occupation: Blacksmith apprentice/ Warrior
Sexuality: Heterosexual

Physical Description: Eskil is 6’ 1” tall and weighs 200 lbs. He has a muscular build but is also surprisingly agile. He has brown hair with a beard and blue eyes. He has several scars from wounds received in battle but most are fairly old, weathered, and are hard to spot on his body from a distance.

Personality: For the most part, Eskil is happy, and definitely enjoys carousing. He is intelligent, a quick learner with a good memory. He loves to retell tales of the Norse gods and sing drinking songs he has learned in the past. Eskil is quite the entertainer while retelling many of the Norse Sagas he learned or leading groups in drinking songs. His biggest challenge is his Self-Doubt. It seems that no matter what he does, it's never good enough. Even when he is successful in an endeavor he sees flaws that could have been improved upon. He always wished he was stronger, smarter, faster, or a better lover.

Biography: Both of Eskil’s parents, Asger and Edny are alive.  Asger is the village blacksmith and Edny takes care of their home. Eskil has three sisters. Gudrid and Dalla are older than him and Bera is younger. Gudrid and Dalla are married with families of their own, so he is not very close with them. His younger sister Bera looks up to him although Eskil doesn’t understand why. Eskil was not typical because he developed a more altruistic, diplomatic, and less greedy personality than most Norse. Because of his “soft and caring” personal demeanor he was often picked on by other children. They verbally beat him down with disparaging remarks whenever they could and Eskil would just silently take it. He was big and strong so most never tried to fight with him. However, this being looked down on by his peers created Eskil’s strong desire for social acceptance.

From about ages 8 to 12 years old, Eskil helped his father at the blacksmith’s forge. At about 13 years of age, Eskil was allowed to participate in defense of the settlement. Though only a youth, his strength and steadfastness that he displayed marked him incredibly well as warrior. He was invited to join village leader’s body guards. After joining them, Eskil saw regular action against attacks by their Norse neighbors. When he was about 17 and a half years old he found a lover, Siggi. As his first love, Siggi, was everything to him and they had a passionate affair. Unfortunately Siggi eventually left and went to another settlement (OOC: the current game the Norse homeland - Norway).

When Eskil, was 18 years old and a very a good soldier, he began going in the dragonships that went on raids from his village to the east (northern Germany and Poland). During the next 4 years of raiding, Eskil was an outstanding warrior and was earning the respect of his fellow soldiers. However, he couldn’t tolerate the killing the old men and children. He also found it difficult to stand by when the others would be raping the women in the villages they raided. Finally, when he was 22 years ole, Eskil found he couldn’t stand by anymore and in order to stop one of the rapists, who was a friend of his, Eskil cut the man’s hand off, unintentionally. To earn back the trust of his fellow soldiers and show his loyalty, Eskil was, from that point on, given the task of leading all the most dangerous assaults. He was always at the point of the wedge and first into battle. After another 3 years of this, at the age of 25, he had finally earned grudging respect from his fellow warriors.

Then Eskil decided to try something different. Instead of leaving northern Germany and returning in the dragonship, he stayed and decided to explore this land. In his explorations Eskil decided to travel west. He learned some of the German language as he traveled and often assisted the blacksmiths in villages where he stayed. After another two years, he eventually made it to Danemark (Denmark). Since he was missing his northern homeland, he hired on trading vessel that was going to make a trade run to the north.  While on the trading ship, they eventually made a stop in the village of an Earl (OOC: the Norse homeland in game setting - Norway). Believe it or not, Siggi was still living there. Eskil learned that her husband had been killed recently and she was a widow with two young daughters (Hilde, age 5 and Abi, age 3). Eskil went to the Earl to offer his services to the village and see if there would be any chance he could court Siggi.
