Alex Harrison

Alexander Harrison

TEAM PRIMARY POSITION: Quartermaster
Supervises all stored gear and distributes supplies and provisions as needed. Quartermaster is responsible for the acquisition, cataloging, distribution and maintenance of all supplies, tents, "chuck boxes" (containers holding food and cooking supplies), stoves, tarps, tools, equipment spares, and gear other than specified Personal Gear.  Quartermaster is also responsible for the proper assessment and disposal of expired, spoiled, or otherwise unusable materiel.

TEAM SECONDARY POSITION: Back-Up Vehicle Specialist

TEAM SPECIALIST: Economic Specialist
The purpose of the Economic Specialist is to evaluate the manmade resources of the Team’s area, with a specific view toward establishing trade between communities.  The EconSpec finds out who can make what; can they make a surplus of a commodity that isn’t available elsewhere, and what is that commodity's worth in a barter economy?  The EconSpec is the one who figures out that a farmer could grow more food if he had a better plow, and recognizes that the smith in the town down the road had the capability to make such plows, he just doesn't know how.  The EconSpec works out a deal to show the smith how to make a better plow, but only if he gives the first one to the farmer in need; that farmer uses the better plow to grow more food, showing his neighbors the value of the better plow, and they all go and make deals with the smith to get new plows.  A basic economy is formed.
An Economic Specialist would also be helpful when the Team runs out of ration packs and they start to negotiate for food.  The Economic Specialist works well with the Contact Specialist, being able to easily play an itinerant trader.

APPEARANCE:
At 6-foot tall, 180 lbs., with sandy-blonde hair and blue-green eyes, Alex is in good shape for a guy in his late-twenties, with a well-coordinated and sturdy build. Women find him handsome, men find him likable.
His sandy blond hair is cut semi-short and usually a bit ruffled; technically clean-shaven, he often goes two-or-three days between shaves, revealing facial hair slightly darker than on his scalp.

PERSONALITY:
Alex is talkative and fun-loving, sometimes appearing scatter-brained, but he can focus when there is a task at hand. He has a knack for getting people to talk. On a few of the team bonding nights he enabled the more reticent members to loosen up.  Unfortunately, he sometimes doesn't know when to stop, and so comes off as a bit of a smart-ass, at times.
He is sharp witted, with a well-rounded education and a humorous nature.  He has a slight gambling compulsion, often trying to fill down-time with various games of chance, as well as making bets on the outcome of routine actions taking place at any given moment.  His gambling is never a distraction (for him), but his frequent "I'll bet you..." can get annoying.

HISTORY:
Alex  was born in 1989 and raised in Missouri. His parents had a farm in rural southeastern Missouri, where Alex spent much of his early life learning about raising crops, keeping a catfish pond, caring for cattle and goats, and keeping cranky farm equipment running. He learned hunting, tracking and woodcraft from his father, but he learned to shoot from his mother, who had been on the US Women's Olympic Shooting Team at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
Alex graduated from Missouri University of Science and Tech, at Rolla, Missouri - Go Miners! - earning a Bachelors Degree majoring in Business Administration: Agricultural Economics, and minoring in Mechanical Engineering. He was a popular fellow at Greek Fraternity parties; his fellow Business students joining in his rolling Poker game and the engineering students he hung out with at numerous keg parties and underground robot battles.
After college Alex landed a job with Cargill, Inc., an American-based global corporation focusing on food, feed, and agricultural production, as well as financial and industrial products. Though this was an ideal job for the career he had chosen, Alex quickly found the daily grind of office work and deal making to not be as fulfilling as he'd expected - but his parents were so proud, he felt he couldn't leave the job or he'd disappoint them.
His only relief from the doldrums of the office were his frequent trips to Vegas and other gambling locales.  Though he never over-extended himself, what little excitement he got was found at a high-stakes table.
It was at Las Vegas that he was recruited by the Morrow Project. They offered him an exciting challenge he just couldn't turn down. Alex had pretty much isolated himself from all of his friends over the previous year, and his only family was his parents, and he hadn't seen them in many months - he'd miss them, but his disappearance wouldn't cause much concern.
His economic skills were seen as being useful in post-holocaust recovery, as were many of his farm-boy background skills. His training in mechanical engineering would be both useful to the Team, as well as to recovery assistance. Finally, while he isn't trained by The Project as a Field Scout, his background in hunting and shooting means that those who are trained as such for the Team won't have to worry about Alex pulling his own weight in those areas.
