Kyunga Barret

Kyunga An Barret is an attractive 30 year old Asian woman from Glendale, AZ. She wears her Cammie fatigues as naturally as a second skin despite her small stature. Standing only 5'5" tall and weighing barely 115 pounds, Kyunga is not what most people envision a modern soldier looking like. Kyunga has traditionally worn her hair long but cut it short before reporting to the Morrow Project.

Her usual load is:
M24 Sniper rifle with 4, 5 round mags
     Glock 26 with 4, 10 round mags
     1 frag grenade
     2 canteens
     First aid kit

Her personal effects are a pair of black suede creepers with a fountain pen and bottle of ink in each one, a black Chanel dress and a string of pearls passed from her grandmother to her mother to Kyunga.

Kyunga was found on the doorstep of a Roman Catholic Church in Pusan as newborn in 1984. In 1987 she was adopted by Dr Andrew Barret and his wife Talia. The dentist from Glendale spared few expenses in Kyunga's rearing - mostly at Talia's urging.

In 2002 Kyunga enrolled at ASU, eager to exercise her independence. When, at Christmas break, her grades reached her parents, Dr. Barret was furious and cut off Kyunga's financial support despite her mother's protests.

After the ensuing argument devolved into a shouting match between Kyunga and her father, she stomped off. Three weeks later she was standing on the yellow foot prints at Parris Island. She found herself a natural marksman and qualified with a near perfect score of 347. Her aborted education in environmental science earned her a spot at MCES, Courthouse Bay on Camp Lejune after she graduated from boot camp. In 2003 she deployed to Iraq with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion. After she rotated back to the States Kyunga was transferred to Camp Pendleton and attached to 1st Combat Logistics Regiment.

In 2005, when CLR1 deployed to Iraq, water purification had been taken over by civilian contractors. Kyunga took the opportunity to taken advantage of the new gender equality policies and volunteered to be retrained as a Forward Observer in support of the 1st Marine Regiment's big guns.

When her enlistment was up Kyunga returned to ASU and resumed her undergraduate degree in Environmental Science. By taking advantage of programs for returning  combat veterans to extend her GI Bill benefits Kyunga earned her degree without financial aid from her family and without taking on huge amounts of loans. When she graduated magna cum laude she and her father began to mend their relationship. Dr. Barret realized Kyunga was a capable, independent individual and Kyunga had learned to understand and appreciate her father's discipline and expectations for her.

With a scholarship for tuition, and combination of remaining GI Bill benefits and parental assistance, Kyunga returned to ASU to earn an MS in Environmental Hydrology.

In 2012 Kyunga took a position with the Arizona DNR as a Water and Irrigation Planning Manager. The job got her outside, hiking and camping, for extended surveys and assessments. As a skilled marksman and outdoorsman, Kyunga discovered a love of hunting that her parents found surprising.

In 2013 Kyunga's mother was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Radiation and chemo did little but make the poor woman miserable. Six months later and Talia was dead and Andrew seemed to be dying of grief. When the Council of Tomorrow contacted her about joining the Morrow Project Kyunga asked for a year to wrap up her affairs. She spent the year camping and fishing with her father as Talia's death slowly killed him too. When Andrew was buried beside Talia, Kyunga reported for freezing.
