He was in the hospital recovering after surgery on a partially amputated finger.  Currently, that finger seems to be re-growing which seems like some sort of miracle.

After recovery he received orders to report to another Corps of Engineers base where he had a new position, Base Commander.  Currently, for what it's worth these days, he is the highest ranking military officer in the Central United States but he does not know that.  Status of any higher ranking officers anywhere else in the world is unknown.
