Jane Kelly

Name: Jane Kelly.
Nickname: Runner.
Age: 32.
Nationality: UK but not the one you know.
Occupation: Soldier/Monster Hunter (The serious kind, not the 'dressing up and cooking' kind).

Appearance:
Jane stands slightly under 180cm tall (which in American is something around 5' 10") and weights roughly 65kg/145 pounds, has light blue eyes and blond hair. She would like to wear her hair long and loose but the reality of missions, deployments and overall the military life makes that more trouble than it's worth for her so she usually keeps it short, not buzz-cut but not reaching her shoulders either... oh and she cuts it herself so it's not exactly the most neat and proper hair cut either.

She always keeps in good shape. Taking up gym and training at first because it was a requirement for the job but actually growing to like it soon after that. She can spend hours with her earphones blasting music at full volume and just running on the treadmill at the base or around the city and, as expected, it didn't take long to became an in-joke among the squad. A teleporter running for two or three hours to get nowhere? Not hard to imagine where her nickname came from.

She has a tattoo on her back, a tribal dragon in the middle of her back that's nothing but a remainder of one wasted night and decided to get something done because... what the heck. If anyone asks her Jane doesn't give a shit about it but the cheesy design actually grew on her with time and doesn't see it as something to regret.

Personality:
At first glance Jane is a troublemaker... and to some degree that's pretty accurate. She acts on impulse and more often than not does whatever she wants whenever she wants it. The shrinks at the army immediately linked that behavior with her powers, even to the point of treating her as a case study into how growing up without the boundaries of distance can alter the way someone sees the world.

She hates shrinks.

That's not to say she's plain trouble though. Jane loves the army life and the thrill that comes with hunting something (or someone) down so whenever her and the team are on a mission she is as disciplined a soldier as you could get... to a point. For her squad she'd do anything and would follow their lead without questioning but if anyone new tries to boss her around then things might not go that smoothly. That tends to change once Jane feels they had proven themselves to be competent enough.

That attitude towards authority is likely what keeps her from getting promoted and constantly passed over despite how valuable she can be.

Background:
People with powers aren't unheard of. No one really knows how it started or what causes it but what they all agree on is that around two hundred years ago people started manifesting weird and seemingly random abilities. At first of course there were witch hunts, complete with burning stakes, and people hunting others like animals just because they had some minor ability that in some cases wasn't even dangerous.

Eventually things settled down. The abilities people manifested were almost exclusively minor. A bit of extra strength, being able to recall everything you did since you were born until now, not needing a flashlight to see in the darkness. Useful things sometime sure but definitely not life threatening.

But what happened if you were among the 'lucky' ones? The ones born with dangerous and powerful abilities?.

For a sixteen year old girl the answer was 'Nothing'. How could anything bad ever happen to you when you could jump from one part of the world to the other in the blink of an eye? When there was literally not a room in the world that could keep you in?. Every teenager thought themselves untouchable but for Jane that might have actually been true.

She ran away from home not too long after her abilities manifested and spent a year living on the streets all over the world. Looking back at it she would fully admit it was a pretty shitty life but at the time it felt awesome. Being your own boss, no one telling you what to do and being able to go wherever the fuck you wanted.

A few months after turning seventeen someone from the army found her. Jane didn't know how they found what she could do and, to be perfectly honest with herself she still doesn't know why she stayed there and listened instead of just jumping away but that decision changed her life.

The man offered her a chance in the army. Enlist, train, put her powers to good use... then if it didn't work or if it wasn't for her she could leave and go back to her wandering life. And after thinking about it for several days Jane showed up at the address he had given her and enlisted.

Would she had been allowed to quit just like that after the army had gone to such lengths to find her and after seeing how dangerous she could be if she wanted to? No, definitely not but luckily for young Jane the army life had turned out to be exactly what she needed.

Fast forward more than ten years and Jane Kelly was one of the very few members of an elite international squad tasked with bringing down (and sometimes taking out) super-powered threats and monsters. She is the main way the team gets in and out of every operation but also an expert marksman and hand-to-hand combatant who through years of training had managed to weave her teleportation skills into every aspect of how she acts on the battlefield.
