Reid Augustus McCrae was born in Amarillo to the McCrae family, a well-off and affluential ranching family from the Texas Hill Country that made it thanks to their cattle and other livestock but really struck it big in the 70s when oil and gas deposits were found on their property.  Owning the mineral rights and through shrewd investing, the family turned this into a multi-million dollar empire (Background of “Resources at 5*).

A typical all-American kid who loves football, baseball, hotrods, and BBQs on the weekend.  The McCrea family are 5th generation ranchers, lawmen, and land owners who own the 77 ranch, commonly referred to as the "Sevens Ranch", founded in 1877 near Fredricksburg by Augustus McRae, a former Texas Ranger.

Learning to ride and care for the animals at a young age, he never honed his skills in this as he never took an interest in it like his siblings.  This meant that while he learned to work the land, ride, and handle the animals he never developed those skills beyond a rudimentary level.  His love came in the form of a Texas Ranger who showed up looking for some fugitives that might be hiding out in their land.

He might not be much of a rancher in the traditional sense but he could protect the land in other ways. This strained his relationship with his father as instead of learning to take over the family business, Reid went on to study Criminal Justice and Emergency management at the University of Texas.

He knew he'd have to put in his time as a highway patrol or local police officer first, but his eventual goal is to join the Texas Rangers
