Ellie was a child genius who used her knowledge of engineering to create various gadgets and fight crime in the guise of Rocket Girl. Ellie lived a double life. As Rocket Girl, through the ages of 13 to 14, she was a teen celebrity and well loved hero, but as Ellie she was unpopular and often picked on.
Her main nemesis as Rocket Girl was an evil genius who called himself Dark Mind. A biochemist who created both toxic poisons and engineered mutants.
For two years she fought Dark Mind and his genetic monsters, winning the battles but never managing to bring DM to justice.
Then one fateful day she found DM's lab...in a hidden bunker beneath her own home. Dark Mind turned out to be her father! Full of rage and feeling betrayed Ellie and her father fought, the fight spilled out into her home. Finally Dark Mind had Ellie cornered and at gun point. He began to confess that Ellie was just another experiment to him. A failed one that he now planned to destroy. Ellie's mother Rosa heard this whole confession while hiding from the battle and leaped out in time to save Ellie at the cost of her own life. Ellie beat her father but the cost was too much and she hung up the Rocket Girl persona for good.
She has only recently re-emerged because her father escaped from prison. Ellie took on a new mantle, Tech, and starts to hunt for him. As Tech she's more brash and sarcastic. She often gets recognized as Rocket Girl, which she hates, still due to wearing the same jet pack and using the same tech as she did then, though she now dresses more like a pulp fiction pilot than RG who was more a typical brightly coloured tight wearing hero.
Ellie tends to be withdrawn and is known for being geeky. She loves sci fi and is especially a fan of Firefly. She works as the head of her own tech company which specializes in medical tech. In either persona she is driven, an obsessive work-a-holic. She spends most of her days in the lab and her nights fighting crime, mostly hunting for her father but also helping where she can. During her rare off time she does the usual dork things: Reading comics, watching nerdy movies, comic cons, and MMORPGs.
Ellie is slim, with long hair usually pulled into a ponytail, in her civilian clothes she dresses in a conservative style and wears large round glasses. She had a Spanish mother that passed when she was a teen and an American father.
