At the end of Final Fantasy VII the promised land is discovered to be a near infinite well of powerful mako energy. an influx of energy this great is noticed by Medical Mechanica so they attempt to tap into this great power source. to avert this, Cloud travels to the parties dimension via Yuuko by giving up all of the power he accumulated during the events of FF7 and joins with the party to thwart Medical Mechanica.
