Mary Finnegan

Physical Description:  25 years old, 1.70m, 65kg.  Black hair, black eyes. She wears a much laundered and mended blue dress uniform, though her white uniform cap has long been lost.  As a concession to the rough country and inclement weather she wears a peacoat and watchstander's wool cap.  A holstered HP-35 rides at her right side and she carries a slung L85.  A pair of naval binoculars is slung on a strap across her body in a leather satchel on her left hip.

Background:  Mary hails from Corelaine, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland.  She grew up the child of privilege, the daughter of third generation industrialist father and a second generation heiress to farm rents mother.  Though ethnically and geographically Irish, the Finnegans have always been loyal to the Crown and duty to it was stressed early on.  Mary rode and swam in her youth, but it was the waters of the Bann and boating that captured her soul.

Mary's father used his connections to help secure her admission to the Britannia Royal Naval College.  Though not in the top of her class, Mary did graduate and was commissioned a Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Navy in 1996.

Mary's virgin cruise saw her serving aboard the newly commisioned HMS Kent. The Kent was thrown into the conflict against the Soviet Red Banner Northern Fleet.  The Kent survived and began a years long duty escorting what shattered remnants of the Fleet as existed and also seeing to the impressment and use of surface noncombatants of all nationalities as Britain sought to keep her sea lanes open.  Due to the exigencies of the Service, Mary was promoted far more rapidly than normal and prudent and a mere four years saw her already a Lieutenant Commander.

In 2000 the Kent suffered a catastrophic engineering failure in rough weather in the Baltic and the captain was forced to abandon and scuttle her off the Polish coast.  Taking to the boats, the crew headed for land.  Sea and weather forced them to lose formation and the boats were seperated.  Mary navigated her boat and its crew ashore but they were perilously close to the lines.  While attempting to lead them towards the dubious safety of NATO held territory, her force of sailors was savgely mauled by marauding Pact elements.  Her command, such as it was, was effectively destroyed and she and a lone ranker survived to escape.  The ranker was killed a few weeks later and Mary has since been alone, until she hooked up with Eryk Czartoryski and Gerhard Dietrich.
