Travis led a simple life until the war came. Just 16 and learning a trade in mechanics Travis volunteered with the 6th Michigan at the onset of the war. Though mostly stationed on the Mississippi, Travis was frequently selected for courier duty and subsequently found himself in many of the pivotal battles of the Civil War.  Unable to return to the normality of Ann Arbor, Travis is heading west where he has heard a quick wit and faster gun can are valuable to those who would carve a civilization from the wilderness.
