Maxine stands about 5 foot 6, weighs about 140 lbs,and she has blonde hair and green eyes and is very much fit due to her increased metabolism. As "The Bolt", she wears a costume similar to The Flash but instead of wingtips on the mask, she has lightning bolts, and she also wears a full face mask with two eyeholes.



Maxine Locke (her friends call her Max for short) came from a small town in Kansas. She had always seen the Air Force planes fly over, as her town was often on their flight path. Max had always tried to excel in school, but never could get anything above a 3.5 when she was younger. She had always wanted to be a pilot but with her grade average that dream had eluded her. She had always been somewhat secluded but had a group of about 2-4 close friends that she hung out with during high school, but after graduation, they had since moved on to other places and greener pastures.

One day, as she was helping some children into a storm shelter during a very bad thunderstorm, she was sucked up by a tornado. Max felt herself being drawn further and further upward into the windy vortex, and had felt that she was certainly going to meet her end. Inside the vortex, the tornado had also swept up several chemicals from a nearby chemical plant. At that moment, when the chemicals were near to Max, a lightning bolt struck Max, and the chemicals then covered Max. Max closed her eyes for a few seconds and then opened them to find out that...things around her were moving slower...or maybe she was moving faster. She concentrated and to her surprise she was moving faster...almost as fast as the jets that she had wanted to fly as a kid. She was able to ride the wind currents down to the ground, and then actually outran the storm. As she began to run, she also found that he could control the lightning, but to a very small degree. She could create lightning bolts but nothing very large or destructive.

Maxine had been an avid reader of comics, and she thought that her episode was somehow a superhero origin scenario. This also gave her an excuse to go to school outside of the small town he had always known. After a tearful goodbye, she left to go to one of the great cities of the world, Centropolis to further her education, and to see what she could do with his gift.

Also knowing that she would need to fashion herself a secret ID, he used existing costume parts to piece together a suit. She was akin to The Flash, but needing something that would make her different from the Scarlet Speedster. She made the costume all black, with the lightning bolts as the midsection, and lightning bolts instead of wingtips on the mask. She also had made a full face mask with two eye slots so he could see, but also left the top part of the mask open so that her hair was free. Based off of the storm that these abilities manifested themselves she took upon the name of The Bolt. And so the adventures of The Bolt began in the great city of Centropolis...
