Joan is from the Wild Coast, where she lived a quiet 19 years. The youngest daughter of a farmer, she joined the local temple clergy at the tender age of 16, wide-eyed at the wonders the priests performed. Recently, after hearing from yet another traveller how raids had destroyed temples and farmlands, she set of to make the world a better place when the king of Elrudd asked her to watch over his son as he sent him away to "become a man".

Recently, as Brutus has shown more of an interest in Celestian (possibly due to various healing and restoration spells endowed on him by Celestian's nearest servant) Joan has started to consider some of the other ramifications of her original orders.
