There was a war. Indeed, there was a war.Two dozen nations, numerous smaller regions, and two empires game to blows.
Who won?
Who knows.
But now the war is over, and a small band of mercenaries finds itself ten thousand leagues from home.
Or near enough, as they have fought themselves to the edge of the world, and failed to leave either breadcrumbs or pretty stones to find their way back.
But home was the land of their father's. The place of their wives (and/or husbands), their children, all that they know that was not war.

Oh, one other thing, anyone who doesn't post for three days will probably have something bad happen to them. Don't say you can post frequently if you can't, unless you don't mind dying. A lot.
