Zontan appears to be fairly young, as professors go, looking to be in only his mid-twenties. He has green hair and slightly pointed ears, marking him as a half-elf. He typically wears old-fashioned, bright clothing, and almost always carries a small but fairly thick leather-bound book with him.

He is also often seen with one of his summons on his shoulder - Flare, Astra, or Umbral. All three are phoenixes, one fire, one ice, and one shadow.
