Description:  Danica ('Dani' to her friends) is a woman of medium height and build.  Though attractive enough, she would be rather unremarkable, except that she carries herself with a grace, precision, and assurance of someone that has been trained to move well, like a dancer perhaps, or an athlete.

Danica can almost always be found with a set of mirrorshades over her eyes - so much so, that you have problems remembering exactly what color her eyes are.  Her clothes are not exactly fashionable; she actually makes it a habit of keeping her arms and legs covered up almost all of the time.  It is unusual to see her outside of a set of flight coveralls, a jumpsuit, or a vacc suit (or other protective clothes) - presumably a habit from her days growing up on the ice planet of St. Croix.  Her nails are neatly trimmed, small tattoos or scar lines peek out from under the cuffs of her long sleeves (which, of course, are never rolled up).

Her raven-black hair is often pulled back into a ponytail or brushed back past her left ear.  The ear which often has a small earbud p-comm in it; it's microphone stub following Danica's rather angular jawline.  She seems at home on board a ship, though when asked; her Service time was purely as a ground pounder.  Danica does have certifications as a pilot:  space, LEO, and atmospheric.  And she is pretty good with ground and grav vehicles, too - you could do worse than to have her behind the wheel.

Tyrell: ... You were made as well as we could make you.
            Batty: But not to last.
Tyrell: The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long -
and you have burned so very, very brightly...

Background:  Danica was born on Espiaux, but moved with her family to the icy planet of St. Croix when she was only five.  The inhospitable climate and terrain of St. Croix required the small group of colonists to  be quite self-sufficient and also required that everyone pitch in.  From a very young age, Danica learned how to handle herself in the protective equipment required to survive.  She also learned the basics of computing, since nearly everything was automated and ruggedized.  And since life could be brutal and violent, Danica develop some essential first aid skills.  While, Danica loved her parents and respected their choice of trying to make a new home out nothing, and while the vistas of Anderton Mons and Jaramine Glacier were stark and breathtaking (especially at dawn), Danica wanted something different.  Danica joined the local militia when she was 15 and dreamed of getting off of St. Croix when she came of age.

Life in the local militia was less paramilitary and more like search and rescue or the Red Cross.  With less than two thousand hardy souls in a handful of domed or subterranean colonies, the inhabitants of St. Croix pretty much all knew each other (or at least, of each other by name and reputation) and were generally willing to help.  It was in the militia that Danica got plenty of survival suit time and firsthand first aid experience.  And she became acquainted with just how dangerous St. Croix could really be.  One incident in particular stuck with her - Thera Santorini's parents had been one of the premier surveying teams for the colonists.  And they were good friends of the Moreaus.  When they were overdue for resupply at the Gilbert Mons waystation the militia were called in and Danica's unit responded with a sweep around their last recorded location.  Thera's parents (or what was left of them) were found.  Thera's mother was found in a makeshift shelter, gravely injured with the couple's main transceiver and homing beacon.  She told the rescue crew that they had lost their crawler to freak ice-ripper blizzard that had originated out of the Patrice Mons over two weeks prior.  Her husband had gone to get help, when the supplies had dwindled, five days previous.  Thera's father was found encased in ice five klicks away.  He was caught in another localized back squall and his suit had been shredded by the flying razor thin ice shards.  Thera's mother died en route back to the colony - succumbing to extreme frostbite and dehydration.  Danica was the one that had to break the news to both her own parents and Thera herself, who was only ten years old at the time.  Thera and her parents had been at dinner with Danica and her parents only two weeks prior, the night before they set out to survey the Patrice Mons looking for suitable satellite colonization sites.  Thera's parents had specified in their will, that Danica's family care for Thera in the unfortunate circumstance that they were unable to.  While, Danica tried to help Thera through the grief, they were eight years different in age and Danica was a bit self-absorbed at that time.  A month and a half later, Danica set off for Espiaux...

Danica made her way off-planet and back to Espiaux when she was 18 to join the Army.  She had thought that her time with the militia had prepared her, but was in for a rude awakening.  While, the St. Croix militia had been mostly a search and rescue team, comprised primarily of volunteers that new pretty much everyone on St. Croix, the Federation Army was a far cry from that.  Not that Danica knew any of that, nor was she necessarily opposed to added range of activities.  She sailed through basic, and actually proved quite adept with the laser rifle.  Her aptitude with sensors and electronic analysis was fostered the Army, there was always plenty of need in a high-tech military for a person of those skills.  And Danica found herself enjoying the work.  Well, that is until the fateful mission where she and her unit found themselves trapped behind enemy lines in a counter offensive on the balkanized planet of Perseus.  The Kidman District is a highly contested area near the Sethri Republic.  Plagued by raiders from the eastern wilderness, the Kidman Government requested aid from the FRE.  As a result, the FRA deployed a number of cavalry units to cover the area.  After her APC was shot down, Danica proved to have a good head on her shoulders and was crucial in ensuring that most of her unit survived the encounter.  Initially, Danica's unit had dug in to wait for reinforcements; Danica was crucial in setting up and monitoring the sensor grid on the perimeter.  But when help was slow (or actually non-existent) in coming, winter setting in, and the raiders getting bolder, Danica took matters into her own hands and lead the survivors of her unit out across the snowy, barren wastes.  What took place was a dangerous cat and mouse game, first in the urban ruins and then in the rough wilderness.  The FRA's original target was Junwang Ko, the leader of the raiders and nationalistic, avaricious thug.  In an ironic turn of events, Danica and her group became the hunted, but also a persistent thorn in Ko's side.  In the initial attack on Dani's unit, her CO was killed - but Danica also happened to slay Ko's brother, who was leading the attack - picking him off from a distance, once she had figured out that he was their tactical leader.  With her unit's strength dwindling and their hiding place compromised Dani took command of the unit, and made a daring decision to brave the coming winter storms and make a break for friendly territory.  With Ko and his men in hot pursuit, Danica and her unit marched for their very lives.  They were ambushed twice more, the first time Danica's unit was able to evade the primary thrust of the ambush, catching one of the pincering raider bands off guard.  In the ensuing hand to hand fighting, Dani killed Ko's paramour, Sujin.  But not until after Dani was gifted with a nasty scar on her right shoulder.  The second ambush was a desperate move by the raiders as Dani and her unit were nearly home.  In fact, the raiders were forced to retreat when FRA reinforcements arrived during the fight.  Ko had gotten the drop on Danica and would have killed her had it not been for the presence of some industrial grade acid that Danica had scavenged and the arrival of the aforementioned FRA reinforcements.  Ko vowed revenge on Dani personally, as he had become aware that she was responsible for all of his troubles.  His retreating form continued to hurl invectives and epitaphs as it disappeared into the distant wilderness.  Danica had won, she had taken upon herself as a personal mission to make sure that all of her unit (which eventually became 'her men') got out alive.  She did anything and everything that was necessary; she foraged, repaired equipment, and cajoled her unit members when they needed it.  And for her actions, Danica received a battlefield commission to Lieutenant and was fast-tracked for promotion to Captain.  The experience had been seminal for Danica, showing her just what she could do if she set her mind to it.

Her next tour with the Army, proved to be eventful in a different way.  Danica's aptitude as a sensor data analyst came to the fore as the Corps fostered her use of that talent extensively.  Danica received both schooling in sensors analysis as well as having plenty of chances to apply that learning.  Some of the work was quite challenging.  But, while the work was steady (if tedious at times) and full of combat action (if downright dangerous at times) and Danica was promoted to Major; Danica knew that she wanted to move on - she could feel her career stagnating.  It was during this period that Danica met a dashing young Army officer named Miles Carson and they started a whirlwind romance.  He was pretty much everything that Danica was looking for - it was almost too good to be true.  And unbeknownst to Danica, her new paramour was too good to be true.  The Army Corps had been well aware of Danica's growing dissatisfaction (probably even before she did), and taken steps.  Their intelligence division (the Army Corps, Intelligence Directorate; ACID) set about recruiting Danica, and this was the method that they chose.

Danica fell for it hook, line, and sinker - at least, initially.  And by the time she understood what was going on, Danica was already recruited and in too deep to get out.  Not that she wanted to get out, necessarily.  Far from it.  With Miles as her handler, it killed (most of) the romance, but made certain other transitions easier.  And their working relationship bore fruit almost immediately, Dani was given a series of missions to complete in Halowon space.  They were a mix of intelligence gathering and more proactive actions.  Her skills with investigative techniques as well as her fast talking skills got plenty of practice and allowed Danica to perform her duties quite well.  Danica found a position as part of the bridge crew on a Trader heading into Halowon Empire space.  The crew just happened to be Hayden Marks' crew.  Danica found Hayden to be an intelligent and savvy man.  He was also an excellent fencer and sparring partner.  Marks was discreet and willing to accommodate many of Danica's rather strange route requests, no questions (or very little questions) asked.  She gained working passage and the situation was perfect cover for her varied covert actions.  Danica got acquainted with the seedier side of Halowon and Espiaux societies, while tracking down (and in some cases, eliminating) a number of troublesome individuals that had hampered other covert actions by the Army, ACID and other FRE agencies.  While in Halowon space, Danica also did a couple of projects to destroy specific strategic resources and move cash to and from assets within the Empire.  Hayden turned out to be quite valuable in moving and laundering the cash assets that were being liberated in various ways.  And for her work, Danica was rewarded with a small cash stipend (very small as it turned out).  It had originally be a sheltered investments in Espiaux Enterprises, a front used by ACID.  But when the cover on that venture was blown, most of the cash Danica had sheltered there disappeared.  But, of course, Danica did not discover this until much later in her ACID career.

Danica continued to work as a covert Army Intelligence agent for over a decade.  Her next set of assignments were as covert bodyguard for various VIPs (at least they were VIPs in someone's eyes).  To look the part, Danica embarked on a fitness regimen that focused on physical grace and coordination and less on weight training or stamina (though both were touched upon).  That fitness regimen still travels with Danica today.  Danica got plenty of training and experience with vehicles - particularly spacecraft.  And her combat skills were not neglected - there were plenty of opportunities for Danica to use her favorite weapon, the laser rifle - either as direct protection or as long range sniper.  For missions completed with distinction, Danica was promoted to full Field Agent status.

Danica's last major mission was to go deep undercover and infiltrate a crime syndicate that had been plaguing the government and hampering their efforts on a number of fronts.  The head of the syndicate, Jarvis Pasternak, had been bold enough to order the death of a recently retired FRA General, Marben Quinlan.  Of course, Pasternak was only acting in retaliation for actions that Quinlan had ordered against a fair few of the Syndicate's urban fronts and properties.  Quinlan had ordered the shakedown as part of his final actions before retiring.  Unfortunately, Quinlan and the FRA's actions greatly disturbed the status quo, which left a number of other covert operations and operatives scrambling.  One such organization was FRECLE, the Espiaux domestic intelligence service, and one such operative was their inside man, Bertrand.  Quinlan's purge forced FRECLE to make arrests while they could still get evidence (which Bertrand provided to them) to hold.  Bertrand remained embedded in the syndicate - and was able to work his way further up the food chain, since some vacancies appeared.  With Quinlan's death, though, ACID now wanted Pasternak burned heavily.  Danica was chosen for a number of reasons, the least of which was that she was just the type of woman that the crime boss was known to take a shine to - the type of woman that could get close and then burn the house down.  Danica was trained in basic engineering with a focus on electronics; she already had plenty of the piloting, driving and mechanical experience required to be a useful member on the Pasternak's private yacht crew and general entourage.

Danica inserted into Pasternak's organization with cover as disgruntled army sniper - her background tailored for the job.  She contacted Bertrand, ACID had leaned on FRECLE, suspecting that they still had people embedded.  With his help, Dani quickly worked her way into Pasternak's confidence.  She performed a number of 'odd' jobs for him and true to the Army Psych profile on him, she was 'adopted' into the family, fairly short order (if over two years can be considered 'short').  Danica continued to perform blacker and blacker ops for the boss waiting for an opportunity to eliminate Pasternak himself.  But not just Pasternak, her orders were to make a statement and do as much damage as to Syndicate materials as possible (his yacht, Jarvis' circle of advisers and lieutenants, as well as any other of a number of prime members on the "Most Wanted" lists for a number of different government organizations).  Bertrand was crucial to her success already being embedded and able to feed Danica plenty of information.  It was good that they both were able to watch each other's back, since the turmoil of the purge had caused many opportunities, but also had left many of the remaining members quite paranoid.  The pair bided their time waiting for the right opportunity.

That opportunity came, unfortunately, when somehow Bertrand's cover was blown.  Dani was forced to improvise on the fly, knowing how zealous and efficient some of Pasternak's crew were at extracting information from individuals.  Danica suspected that it was only a matter of time before Bertrand succumb to such techniques; she knew that she probably couldn't survive long in that type of environment.  So, Danica made sure she was given the assignment for Bertrand's second (and final) 'interview' session.  As Fate would have it, many things started to come together.  Pasternak in a fit of paranoia called a family meeting to discuss how Bertrand could have gotten so high in the organization undetected.  The meet was on Pasternak's private yacht, the Sweet Success, which ultimately had been contracted from Osawa Lines.  So, again, Fate intervened and the crew on-board contained a man well known to Danica, Hayden Marks.  Danica had seen Marks on-board before (portions of the maintenance and other 'non-essential' crew rotated), but never been able to fully acknowledge him.  To his credit, Hayden played along flawlessly with Danica's operation though he was not privy to all of the details.

The Hand of Fate was in full force, since it also turned out that a man named Jack Keveloh was also on-board the Sweet Success, having been contracted by Jarvis Pasternak as part of his security team.  Apparently, Jack and Bertrand had worked together before; the two having worked with each other almost a decade in the past doing some mutual snipe and game hunting.  Bertrand left explicit instructions for Danica to be able to make contact with Jack in the event that he (Bertrand) was taken or incapacitated.  Jack, like Hayden, had seen Bertrand and Danica around, but was not necessarily briefed on the mission.

Actually, the Hand of Fate worked overtime, when Danica discovered that one of the new entertainers that had been brought in was someone from Danica's past, Thera Santorini.  Danica had not seen Thera in almost a decade, but apparently, Hayden had had intermittent contact with her.  Danica, remembering a promise made to Thera's biological and foster parents, tried to keep an eye on the wayward traveller when she discovered she was aboard.  To her credit, Thera never broke Danica's cover - though what she thought of Danica's persona on that yacht, Dani can only wonder about.  Danica had originally resolved to try and keep a more active eye on Thera after the mission was over and they (presumably) were to part ways.

But when Bertrand was taken, that all changed when in a flash - Dani directly contact Hayden, Jack, and Thera inducting them into the immediate conspiracy and using their working knowledge of the ship and the security routines to disable or co-opt the appropriate alarms, security patrols, and general ship's systems.  Thera's obvious charms were used to distract the crew and give the others a chance to act less hindered.  Stashing her favorite weapon, a highly customized laser rifle, in the interrogation room beforehand, Danica rescued Bertrand and killed her assistants; the three men that were there to help her 'interview' him.  Bertrand had already experienced a pretty rough time - and he and Danica had to shoot their way out - though it probably could have been worse.  Luckily, Jack was able to station himself as a guard outside the room.  Danica knew that timing was essential, with the Family and their rather formidable (and paranoid) security gathering - She, Bertrand, Hayden, Jack and Thera had to get gone and quick.  But, Danica still had her mission objectives.  So, she and the others sabotaged the yacht's controls and engines and then tried to make good their escape.  But, nothing ever goes according to plan.  Someone may have found one of the explosive packages - from Danica, but planted by Jack who had both the training and the access - early, or Danica's timing was off (though she swears that was not the case), or any myriad set of random circumstances may have occurred.  But Danica, Jack, and Bertrand were discovered immediately after fleeing the interrogation room leading to a rather vicious firefight.  Hampered by the injuries from his torture and trying to shield Danica from an explosion, Bertrand was burned badly for his efforts.  Only the timely arrival of Hayden and Thera, after getting the rest of Hayden's crew safely away, allowed the three of them (now five) to make good their escape.  Danica had tried to bluff her way through the various checkpoints, but found her security codes and status locked down when the festivities (well, primarily the multiple explosions) started.  The five eventually made their way to the yacht's smallcraft, dodging and fighting various security teams the entire way.  The last firefight got Bertrand shot in the head (it was just not his day).  The quintet barely made off the yacht before it exploded.  After a bit of harrowing cat and mouse with Syndicate resources pursuit, they made it to a hospital before Bertrand expired.  It was a very special hospital and the one which Danica was quite familiar with having been to before and which she knew that her old acquaintance, Dr. Jim Deltori Jones, was conducting various special research projects at.  The medical care was top notch, and it was just the place that Bertrand could be properly treated; so, he was spirited away to this hospital for a private convalescence.

Their actions gained them enough notoriety primarily in crime circles that ACID decided that even though Danica was commended and promoted (becoming a senior Field Agent), that her 'retirement' was in order.   The destruction of a private yacht does not go unnoticed, publicly.  Thera and Hayden were commended for their quick thinking and the saving the lives of his crew from the 'malfunctioning' starship.  Luckily, Jack and Danica's photos were never seen or published.  However, Danica's face was not marketable any longer with the Pasternak Family seeking her for further 'questioning'.  So, ACID had it altered - just enough for the effect to surprise any previous acquaintances.

Luckily - or perhaps surprisingly, the burn order was not given for Danica herself.  ACID had a reputation of not allowing operatives to leave under their own power.  But, Dani was only given termination papers.  Apparently, the FRE Pathfinder Service lobbied for her and had enough clout that their wish had been granted.  Danica has mostly been waiting for the other shoe to drop...
