Camber is a serious-minded and down-to-earth young woman who has been forced to grow up even more quickly than usual in the village. Her father was killed by a falling tree several winters ago, and her mother was taken by wasting sickness soon after, leaving her to care for two younger brothers and a little sister. She has developed the skills necessary to keep her family fed and is good enough with a bow and arrow to have extra meat and hides on hand to trade for services she cannot perform, but her focus on survival has left her with no time to care about social niceties and expectations, so her sharp tongue and lack of interest in marriage has given her something of a reputation in the little village. Coupled with her outspokenness and brash forthrightness, Camber is something less than popular with most of her peers and elders.
