History/Background: Monique grew up after the Civil war in Louisiana. Her father was a riverside merchant who did a brisk trade with the riverboat workers and the occasional carpetbagger.  She grew up around such men and learned a few unladylike things to do with a knife or a pistol. Occasionally the Store would be visited by Ol’ Man Robineau a white merchant who was quite rich from shipping cotton before the war. The Ol’ Man took a liking to her and eventually revealed that he was her Papere, her grandfather.  Realizing her sharp mind Monique’s papere sent her to a boarding school in France with a cousin of hers.  While She excelled academically, eventually earing a Baccalauréat économique et social, Socially she was very low ranked. Still she found the time to adventure in Paris and got her 'anneaux de sein'. Coming back to Louisiana Monique quickly realized that as an Educated Sambo woman that Louisiana was not for her. Rather than endure visits by night riders and burning crosses, Monique has moved out west to seek her fortune.
