Penforth Hearthsword is normally well-groomed; his blond hair is kept short and neatly tucked away under his helmet and normally quite clean, his face is pink and his skin is clear. He counts himself very fortunate that he's never really had to worry much about shaving, since it's one less thing to worry about and he's not really a fan of facial hair. His eyes are a sharp, penetrating blue and his face is the typical round of a halfling. His build is very solid and muscular, exceptionally so for one of his race, and Penforth likes to keep himself in shape too. He stands erect with good posture, as if he's trying to command attention to himself - a little tricky given his relative size, though he does find it easier to do when he's mounted. He does have a set of noticeable scars - a set on both sides of his wrist and another on his shoulder - that look like healed-over wounds, but don't appear to cause him any problems.

When he's on duty in some capacity he will wear his armour with pride, and said armour is also kept clean and in good repair. He also wears a blue tabard with a shield emblazoned on the front and back, showing the crest of the Knights of the Icicle - a blue five-pointed icicle on a silver field. He is very proud of his uniform and will take great pains to take care of it. When he's not armoured, he will wear good-quality clothes (usually cold weather ones, given where he lived) and is never without his trusted sword, given to him by Sir Fortescue when Penforth became his squire. He's also accompanied by Steel, a strong Landseer dog that serves as a mount to Penforth; when he's on duty with him he wears barding with the same heraldry emblazoned on it.
