In the open, unclaimed wilderness of the Shining South, an infant settlement faces new challenges every day. Coming from origins scattered across Faerûn, its founders seek simple goals ranging from peace and quiet to ambitious profit, but all are united in their fierce determination to carve out a life in the Shaar, no matter the costand no matter what enemies they must fend off to protect it.Situated at the fork of the Darkulh where it joins the Liontongue River, Freehold has lasted for nearly two years in game time, and going on three in real time. Veldorn is not called "the Land of Monsters" for nothing, but the settlers face many types of challenges and obstacles beyond mere day-to-day combat. It's hot, it's isolated, and the region has a long, bad history of grinding previous civilizations into dust.
There's room for every type of character, from sterling protectors to wicked politicians to self-interested treasure hunters, and with multiple active plot arcs, there's always something for everyone to do. Dungeon delvers, builders and planners, warriors, scholars, artisans, and simple farmers are all very welcome, and players can expect to level up consistently without ever needing to engage in battle, should they choose. The adventure is in the village, and the village is the adventure!
