Vincenzo "Vincent" Moretti was born in Trapani, Sicily, but emigrated with his parents to the United States when he was still a child. He spent most of his formative years among the working class families of Italian Harlem. Vincent's father, a construction worker, was killed in an accident when Vincent was a young teenager. Regarded as a clever, intelligent boy by neighbors and acquaintances, Vincent quickly discovered ways to help support his mother and sister in his father's absence.

By the time he reached his early twenties, Vincent had already achieved some success in business, but to broaden his understanding he attended classes at the City College of New York, ultimately obtaining a degree in finance. Although diligent about attending to his business affairs in the city, recent years have seen Vincent traveling extensively, primarily to Canada and Western Europe, in order to develop a network of import partners. Although initially reticent about leaving New York, Vincent has grown to enjoy traveling and has developed a deep appreciation for many of the customs and cultures he has encountered.

Vincent tends to be soft spoken. He is generally deliberate in his speech, choosing his words carefully. Around those he knows well, he is warm and even occasionally jovial. He is slow to make promises, but once made, he will do his utmost to fulfill them. He is fiercely loyal to those he cares for. The bonds of family and friendship are of the greatest importance to him.

Vincent is neatly groomed and dresses conservatively, favoring dark colored suits and muted ties. In rain or cooler weather, he often wears a black overcoat and leather gloves. Although considered ruggedly handsome by some standards, Vincent's face is marked by a thin, vertical scar which travels from his left cheekbone to his jawline.
