Appearance:
Of average height Maryam has a dancer’s body and her darker skin shows her moon elven and Calimshite origin. She usually wears her black hair in a long braid and favors silken clothes that do not restrict her movement.

Personality:
Maryam is a sensual and friendly person, curious, and quite intelligent. She is an extraordinary performer and very good at getting people to do what she wants them to – she can sweet talk, seduce, and bluff with the best of them and gather information in various places.
She’s not as smart as she thinks she is though, and not very wise, and prone to miss important things. She is also not very versed in judging people, often jumping to conclusions, and can be relatively easy fooled. Her vanity and pride is another weakness – she is very beautiful, and knows it. When nervous or deep in thought she often pulls on her braid and bites her lips.

Motivation:
Dancing is life for Mayram – she’s a born performer, and basks in the admiration of the audience. She became an adventuring bard because she wanted not just sing of daring deeds, but do them. Her past, and the influence from the church of Selune made her very sympathetic to the plight of others, especially women and orphans, and she is almost always ready to help such people in need.
She is always on the lookout for new songs, or inspiration for new songs.

Goals:
Maryam wants to find her brother, whom she was separated from when they were both children. It is for that goal that she has returned to Calimport, despite the risk she runs there, and the many dangers for lone dancers that dwell in the sprawling city.
As a performer she’s also vain and proud enough to desire the adoration of her audience, and to win fame and fortune through her art.

History:
Maryam was born as the daughter of an elven slave in the harem of Pasha Fahd al-Jeras. Her mother was a favorite of the Pasha but she fell victim of a plot of a rival concubine when Maryam was 12 years old, leaving Maryam and her brother Alim, one year older than her, as orphans. Alim was taken away from the harem when he reached the age of 15 years, but Maryam was kept in the harem and trained to become a concubine until she was sold to Hassid al-Kyrenyr when she was 20 years old. On the way to the mansion of the al-Kyrenyr in Memnon the caravan she was travelling with was raided by Moonknights of Selune intent on freeing slaves. The knights succeeded in driving the guards away and took her and other slaves to Waterdeep.
There the girl was taken in by followers of Selune, and spent some time at the bardic college, honing her talent as a dancer and performer. Once she felt she had learned enough, and after a few ventures into local tombs, she decided to return to the city of her birth to find her brother.
