Girard Viticus Manes

Girard Viticus Manes stands at an even six feet tall with bronze skin that is marked with numerous scars from past battles.  His hair is black and kept shoulder length and immaculately trimmed. His is eyes are brown and he keeps himself clean shaven.  He is fine featured and his human parent was probably Varisian.  He looks to be in his mid twenties.

Girard maintains his appearance at all times due to his history as an entertainer of sorts.  He tends to go about shirtless and even in battle, tends to spurn breastplates.  If given the opportunity to prepare for a fight in which there could be others spectating, he will coat himself in scented oils, so that his rippling muscles glisten.  He was trained from early on to use a rare Tian Xia weapon, a large, curved blade of exquisite craftsmanship called a Nodachi.

Girard is also a skilled dancer, and often employes dancing moves into his combat.  While it doesn't necessarily increase his effectiveness, it is quite pleasing to watch as he puts decorative flourishes and twists into his moves.  Even though he does not have to entertain a crowd anymore, this was the way he was taught how to fight, so he continues to do so.

His voice has a melodic elven quality that is at odds with his imposing frame.  When in battle, he tends to whoop, trill, and laugh instead of roar.

Gerard keeps a pet rat with him, a small white and grey thing that he had raised from a pup after taming it's mother in his cell at the arena. He calls her Augustine and she often rides on his shoulders and hides behind his hair or in his pack.

HISTORY

Girard Viticus Manes was born in the household of a wealthy Chelaxian merchant by the name of Viticus Octavon Ilmar. Ilmar was a singularly cruel man, who's only love was money. One of his many abused slaves was a young Varisian woman named Eliza Manes.
One day, a visiting elven merchant lord stayed over at his estate, and was given Eliza as company for the night.  Nine months later Girard was born. The only thing that his mother gave him before he was sold off at the tender age of 8 was his name, Girard, Viticus was added by Ilmar due to his pride.
Girard was sold as a child love slave to Constantus Mirr to pay off a gambling debt. Constantus was also an avid fan of the arena, and began training young Girard in the art of fighting.
Eventually, Girard turned from a scared, effeminate boy, into a swarthy fighter.  Having out-grown and out muscled Mirr's taste in lovers, he was then sold to a wealthy eccentric Chelaxian merchant lord by the name of Neries.
Neries was a middle-aged man when he purchased Girard. Neries also had strange taste.  While he did wish to take Girard as a lover, he never forced himself on him and treated Girard with much more respect and kindness than any master had ever done before, even at times treating him as an equal.  Despite his kindness and generosity, Neries was still an unsurpassed hedonist, with bi-weekly orgies staffed with slaves ranging from halflings to ogres, clothed only in soft cheeses and finger cymbals.  Over time, Girard came to respect the man, for all of his drawbacks, he had a shrewd mind and a talent for winning people's loyalties.
Eventually, as all people with power do, he had his fair share of enemies and they conspired his downfall.  They embroidered him in a city-wide scandal, implicating him in the most depraved of acts.  While most of the stories were true, even the ones that seemed embellished, the fact that it was all public, with pictures, forced the hand of the ruling faction, lest they get implicated in the deeds as well (which they were actually party to).  Having no other option, they exiled Neries from Cheliax and confiscated most of his assets.
Though he was exiled, he still had enough friends in high enough places that wherever he went, he would be well off.  Deciding to flee to a little known place, he moved to Brevoy, a place far removed from the center of the world.  With him, he took his most trusted slaves, among which was Girard who was acting as his body guard. While in Brevoy, Neries started creating his trade empire from scratch again, and with that, continued to fuel his myriad lusts.
By this time, Neries was getting on in the years, and was quite overweight.  He also had most of the nobles and personages of note in Brevoy in his pocket.  It was then not quite a shock when at one of his orgies attended by several nobles, Neries had a heart attack while under four obese halfling prostitutes slathered in gravy.  The scandal was immense. To cover their tracks, the attending nobles paid off all the people present to say nothing of their involvement and that it was a only Neries that was in attendance.  The city then confiscated his wealth.  When they looked at all his possessions, however, they saw that Girard was among them.  Not knowing what to do with a gladiator, they sent him off to the Stolen Lands with his freedom on the condition that he "civilize" it.
