[Deadlands Classic] A Time of Reckoning

In the early summer of 1870 a reporter from the Tombstone Epitaph named Eric Calhoun who was once presumed dead, returned to their headquarters from an assignment to Lost Angels. Looking haggard and demented and dressed in torn rags of the clothing which he had once possessed, his eyes and expression held a fevered intensity. He remained silent even as those he knew best tried to care for him and speak to him about his disappearance. He refused all sustenance and comfort, for he no longer knew how to find such. The only words he uttered, in a loud and terrible voice, follow here.

'And lo! The world shall be bathed in a cleansing fire, smothered in fear and They shall reach out Their hands to take what is Theirs. The nations shall be laid barren and the children shall weep and Their majesty shall be terrible to behold. In the hearts of man will They plant fear and sorrow, and shake the very will of all mankind. The skins of man shall they burn that he may know pain and the mouths of man shall they silence so that he may not know the solace of screams and the souls of man shall they enslave that he may not know rest in this life or any other.'

None who heard those words ever repeated them, and they were never published in the Epitaph, dismissed as the ravings of a madman. A John Abrams recorded these rantings, and took care of Calhoun personally for some time, up until the time that both Calhoun and John's personal journal went missing, leaving behind only people with no recollection of these events.
