Groundling:
Before you stands a six feet tall mantis! It's even got something that could resemble clothes on, and it's not just bits of other people's laundry that got stock to the spikes on the carapace. The same carapace that has small scale-shaped tiles of crystal embedded. The upper set of its six limbs terminate in small bone-blades, while the middle set has a number of phalanges the purpose of which can only be guessed at.
Its faceted eyes aren't looking directly at you, but there's no telling where they are actually focused.
Suspended from a long strap around its midriff dangles the mummified hand of an elf and on its 'hips' such as they are, hangs a couple of saddlebag-like packs.

'Farer:
You're looking at a Xixchil, obviously of the warrior caste, as its upper limbs have been modified to include bone-blades rather than hands.
The Xixchil could be wearing the remains of some kind of uniform, but there is no rank insignia.
Around its midriff hangs the mummified hand of a humanoid with elven blood, as well as two packs, one on each 'hip'.
