The Grave Company

The Grave Company is the First of the Free Companies of Khatovar. It is sometimes referred to as the Ancient Company. The men and women of The Grave Company are most often called Gravers, among other things. The Company welcomes all walkers of life, but it does not tolerate being abandoned. A job in The Company is a job taken for life. The Company is family. There is no home but where The Company makes war. Loyalty is to brothers and sisters first and to the employer next.

The Ancient Company has never grown beyond the size of a thousand men and never will. The Grave Company is not an army and will not fight wars on their own for any employer. Instead, the Grave Company elects only to be employed by those that can pay the most and will field their own armies. The Gravers are elite, amongst the best in the world, and no one can deny it.

The Company does not lack for sorcerers, wizards, mages, and the like. But it has never had the most powerful. However, that is no surprise. Any magic user worth more than their weight in gold carves their own country out of occupied lands. Most through terror, but some through respect. Still, the Gravers have never been afraid to take on sorcerous tyrants and rulers. The Grave Company has always specialized in taking on the worst odds and coming out on top.

The Grave Company may not be invincible, but it refuses to be erased entirely. The Company has always gone on, no matter how hard times have been. Some say The Grave Company will be the last of men on the earth, walking on the graves of the perished and forgotten.

--------

This game is a shameless rip off of The Black Company series. It will utilize many of the same tropes. Of course, I plan to put my own spin on things. Hopefully this will be exciting to some of you who have read the series. For those of you who haven't read the series, I hope it will prove to be just as exciting and fun. The world will be very dark, very gritty, and punishing. I will aim to make different types of characters across the board. Some will be deep, realistic personalities. Others will be icons that will forever remain shrouded in mystery, serving as little better than flat ideas meant to inspire only one or two emotions at a time.

For those not familiar with the series, this game will take place during a time when gunpowder weapons are not yet invented. Men and women still fight with swords, knives, axes, and lances. However, Alchemy does exist in this world, so things like fire bombs and gas bombs may appear.

Player characters will die. Not necessarily all of them and not necessarily yours. But I do not guarantee that any one character will live through the whole story. Because of this, I will most certainly allow and encourage the use of multiple characters. I would recommend making a few side characters throughout the game, some of whom can walk away from the the story if they survive long enough.

This game is not a competition and it is not about winning. This game is supposed to be a collaborative writing experience similar to writing a novel. I hope serious writers will join me in making an epic story that satisfies all kinds of cravings.
