Nan is an average city dweller if there ever was one.  His moderately above average appearing clothes, brown average length hair and brown eyes on an average height man have been described to the officials in many cities where he has worked.  He is so average it is easy to overlook him unless he considers you part of his current task.  No one really knows Nan but many know of him.  He is the one who makes the problems of the powerful go away.

For years Nan served a single royal family making awkward secrets exposed in drunken revelry re-submerge to the secrets they started as equally with relieving a neighboring city of the most recent bastard to mount a bid for the throne.  Now Nan works for himself or whoever he chooses.  No one knows how he does what he does and he is unknown to the assassin's guild but a lot of unfortunate deaths seem to happen when he is around and often after he leaves.
