Truth be told, The Honourable Miss Winifred Goff-Gallows (Fred to her friends and father) is thought at least as eccentric as her father, thanks to her fascination with engines and machines. She scandalously wears a divided skirt when riding her motorbike, Flying Childers.

Her mother had died giving birth to her, so Winifred was doted on by her father and raised by a succession of nannies and tutors. She developed self-confidence and a certain independence of spirit, which is a bit like describing Waterloo as a small skirmish, and a passion for tinkering and inventing that rivalled her father's.
