Tate Ames

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
Tate is a light skinned, red headed man just on the thin side of healthy. He's
usually smiling and/or eating sugary foods, which bugs his friends who
can't eat the way he does and stay as thin as him.
His only notable scar is a long line that runs diagonal across his chest from
upper right to lower left. He got this from a tribal warrior in the amazon
that didn't like Tate wandering through the rain forest and decided to come
at Tate with a primitive sword.
He has two tattoos. One is a black and white copy of the Ranger tab on his upper
left shoulder (under where it would normally be worn on the uniform). The
second is on his right calf muscle. It is a simple text tattoo of the information
on his dog tags. This tattoo is not for flash or style, but purely for ID purposes
     should he become a casualty.

CHARACTER BACKGROUND
Tate enlisted in the army fresh out of high school, primarily because his recruiter
told him he'd be able to travel the world and see new things, all on the dime
of the United States tax payers. This was largely B.S., though he did get to
spend time in Germany for a while.
To compensate for this lack of travel he began saving all of his money for personally
funded adventures, often going deep off the grid during his leave periods and
coming back with strange stories and tokens of exploration. (most of his unit
was pretty sure most of these were made up and he just spent his whole leave period
hibernating in a motel some place.)
Despite not having a college education, Tate's passion for exploration and experience
drove him to learn many new languages, which he picked up easily due to his wit
and natural intellect. However, the downside of being naturally smart was that he
often rubbed superiors the wrong way with mildly insubordinate "jokes".
While his skills and intelligence made him too valuable to drum out for his uppity nature,
his superiors were on the look out for ways to dump him off on to other units. So when
the SGC sent out for transfer recommendations, Tates CO threw his name in the hat.
despite being nominated as more of a cruelty then a sincere suggestion, someone at SGC
saw potential in Tate's file, and green lit his transfer to Mount Cheyenne.
Initially Tate expected the SGC to be just another military operation in which he would take
part as ordered, while spending all his time thinking about his next foreign adventure.
And then he found out what the SGC was, and he realized he lucked in to an assignment
that was bound to hold his attention, curiosity, and and passion in a way no position
     ever had
