Background:

Arani used to be a police officer who, as it turned out, had a knack for finding people that did not want to be found. During one of the more dangerous chases she was shot in her leg, and it never really managed to heal up right, resulting in a somewhat limping walk that was, unfortunately hard to hide.

When budget cuts forced her to -- as it was called -- seek employment elsewhere, she became a bounty hunter, tracking down escaped convicts and receiving part of teh bail money as a reward. It took criminals off the streets, she had always been good at finding them to begin with, and the work was similar enough to what she was used to doing and paid well enough to maintain her old lifestyle. In short, a logical career choice.

Logical unless one would find themselves in the middle of a world where zombies roamed, which, unfortunately for Arani, happened to be precisely what took place. A week after a successful bust, she had been in town to celebrate when she heard the first of the screams, and everything went to Hell shortly afterward.
