Haazheel Thorn

Appearance:  Haazheel Thorn is a thin, wiry youth of 20, though his hair hints at the old age to come, and his gaze and face shape tell of his favoring brain over brawn—an abstemious scholar. His pack holds a green hooded robe with silver runes; he normally wears comfortable pieces of his explorer's outfit.  While his is am intent personality, one who seeks knowledge, fellowship or humor can evoke a grin that reveals also a child who enjoys happy play.

Personality:  Trained in alchemy, facile with numbers, and willing to do menial chores; the honest Haazheel has earned his keep as apprentice, clerk, cook, and  in town and on the road. Haazheel is slow to socialize, and it's easy for others  to tell when he's annoyed—he has a habit of finger-tapping his quarterstaff when irritated—but those who come to know him realize that, if reciprocated, his loyalty and friendship are without limits. However, attempts to influence him "unfairly" body, mind, or soul will incur his enmity, and he refuses himself to attempt such magic...but, perhaps inconsistently, he can tolerate a companion's effort to use magic this way.

Background:  Haazheel's childhood was happier than it might have been. He had an older and a burly twin brother who made sure the bookish boy was unbullied. Also, he had two older sisters who helped him form some ideas of what females were all about. Still, he was the youngest son, even if by fifteen minutes. Therefore, the family was happy when Thramdur chose him to be apprentice.

In his spare time the young mage usually could be found with booksellers, in libraries, or by tellers of tales. Always he would try to sift through to whatever lodes, nuggets, or grains of truth there might be. He also became a linguist, with the help of these stale spinners and books.

He enjoyed life, but his passion was for knowledge and furtherance of the Art. Someday, he dreamed, he would be able to contribute original work. (His major deity is Boccob.)
