Lucina Krause - Winds of Change

The daughter of the Magister Gertrude Krause of the Bright Order, Lucina seemed to be destined for greatness from the moment of her birth under the ominous light of the Witchling Star. It was even rumored that the girl's father was a Lord Magister of the Bright Order, though that was never confirmed publicly as none of the standing Lords Magister of the Order ever claimed Lucina for their own.

Throughout her childhood in the college in Altdorf, she was subjected to whispers of a long-standing prophecy and each of her successes and failures were judged as signs in support of or against her potential destiny of fulfilling the prophecy of "a female Battle Wizard without peer." The constant scrutiny seemed to serve only to push the young girl onward. From the youngest age, Lucina struck onlookers as being possessed of the courage and strong will said to be the birthright of those born under the Sign of Magic.

The first sign of budding magical talent was observed at the remarkably young age of 7, adding more fuel to the fire of those who quietly hoped she was the one prophesied. After a brief, tumultuous argument with the Lords Magister of the Bright Order, Lucina's mother claimed the right to take her daughter on as Apprentice.

Having looked up to her mother from the earliest point at which she could remember, young Lucina was thrilled at the prospect of learning from her. Thanks to the substantial outside scrutiny imparted by the odd circumstances, Gertrude had no room in which to be any less hard on her daughter than any other apprentice. In fact, she often worked the girl twice as hard as she would have an unrelated apprentice.

It was significant, challenging, difficult work, especially for someone who was not yet even an adolescent, but Lucina consistently rose to the challenge. At 8, she wrote When you can't run anymore, you crawl in her journal, filling two facing pages by repeating the words line after line. Throughout the next several years, the pressure continued to increase and the young apprentice repeatedly turned the tables by excelling at each point where it was feared she would break.

While it remained unclear as to whether Lucina Krause would be the prophesied Battle Wizard, she adopted the concept as a lifelong challenge to continually better herself in service to the Empire. Even a tragic accident that almost cost her her life failed to slow down the young Bright Wizard.

Lucina Krause is a short, stocky, solidly-built woman. She towers over gnomes and halflings alike from a height of five feet and two inches above the ground and fills out her order robes with one hundred thirty-five pounds of implacable pyromancer. She was born with curly, fiery red hair which has only waxed more strongly toward the appearance of billowing flames as she has grown in power. Her eyes are a pale Hazel that seem to be flecked through with sparks of flame and are typically found darting about to take in as much information about her surroundings as possible.

The Master Vigilant of the Bright Order bears a series of red tattoos on her face, down her neck, over the shoulders, and down her arms in a repeating, swirling, fractal pattern. Her hair is eternally unruly, with frizzy strands refusing to be brought to order regardless of how much work is put into its love and care. She wears a smirk or smile at almost all times, even while asleep, and is quick to fire back with a sharp or cutting remark where one is called for. Much like the fire she commands, her attention and sense of humor dance lightly on invisible currents, jumping from place to place seemingly at random, yet leaving room to suspect another influence at work to direct them both.

While she was an apprentice, Lucina experienced a tragic accident that almost took life. She survived with incredible burns on the left side of her upper body, arm, and neck. They left angry-looking scars that one would expect to cause her a great deal of pain but hardly seem to hinder her at all. If there is pain, she hides it well.

Not long before her ascension to Master Vigilant, then-Journeyman Krause received word that her mother had lost her life in battle supporting forces of the Imperial Army. While the late Lady Krause had no lands or titles of her own, her few belongings passed on to her daughter. They included a cunningly wrought gold ring set with a radiant fire opal, and an exquisite longsword named "Engel" she had enchanted herself in earlier days. When visiting a bar, Lucina appreciates good, strong alcohol, variants of whiskey being a particular favorite.
